First of all please let me point out I have no knowledge with regards to this at all, so if what im saying doesnt sound right it probably isn't.

Just bought a europa which I like apart from the stereo as no where to keep discs, this has led me to buy a alpine bluetooth unit to use my phone as a server.

have removed the old blaupunkt system and tried to connect the new unit however I cannot get it to turn on. It appears to have no ignition power which seems to be the problem and fits in with the fact that the old system would not turn off with the ignition. It would appear that I could run a cable from the fuses in the front to the stereo to create the ignition power but cannot find a way into the back of the space for the unit without drilling. Also using a multi meter seems to suggest the car is running at 18 volts whereas I expexted it to be 12 volts.

does anyone have any thoughts or guidance before I resign myself to the old unit again? Or indeed if there is anyway of giving the blaupunkt stereo either bluetooth capability or ipod connectivity.

Thanks for reading and any guidance greatly appreciated.

The previous owner of my Europa had a different Blaupunkt stereo fitted so I don't have the standard stereo fitted to mine. Mine certainly switches on with the ignition. The circuit diagrams in the service manual suggest both constant and switched lives are available I think (although I'm crap at reading such diagrams) - it would be bonkers for it to be non-standard - send me a message through here if you'd like me to show you the diagram in question!

Thanks for the offer, pm sent.

It certainly appears to of been tinkered with, the only wires I have going into the back of the blaupunkt appear to be the double block which goes into the bottom right, the aerial, and a separate lead which I assume is the GPS aerial?

Have you tried swapping the yellow and red wires (Ignition and permanent positive) around?

I have this didn't make any difference, tried the unit in another car to rule a dud unit out as well and it worked just fine.

The double block should be standard ISO - the service manual says "All cars are fitted with a main wiring harness which includes:
an ISO 16-way connector located behind the standard ISO size audio aperture in the dash panel" - so I presume that's the two blocks of 8 and that they're standard ISO 10487 (as I think that's what the Blaupunk Travelpilot comes with). Looking on Wikipedia at the pins on the blocks they don't seem to correlate to the numbers on the circuit diagram I sent you so who knows what those numbers on the diagram mean!

Could a fuse have blown?

No, I looked at the diagram and tried to fathom it out but in the end booked it into a custom installer who has done one before. Getting to the point where its goi g to cost me more to have it fitted than the cost of the bleeding stereo!
Going to get it powered up without ignition so that trim doesnt have to come off. And then when I get it re trimmed later this year I will do it properly.
