Ok, looking to see if anyone can help. My dad's about to build a turbo kit for his s2 exige, the engineering part isn't an issue as he's turbocharged other cars in the past.
However the part we aren't sure of is the ecu. Can you get a piggy back for the standard ecu or is it aftermarket only option?

It's the Toyota 190 engine in the car.
Any info or advice regarding anything to do with turbo charged elise /exige would be great.
Thanks, Gary.

There are no piggybacks that will work with the Lotus ECU, your dad will need a standalone ECU... Eliseparts would be your best source for a plug and play system..

www.johndanbyracing.com we sell a specialist components ECU and adaptor loom for Toyota engined cars.

Main weak point with these engines is con rods, after having a lot of experienced with supercharged 2ZZ engines in the 2-11 I would not even start with forced induction without changing them.

Will the gearbox cope with the sort of torque that a turbocharger will produce?

?????? The rods can handle 400 whp no problem, there are no supercharged 2ZZ 211's making anything close to 400 whp. Don't worry about the rods because the gearbox will fail long before you kill a rod......just sayin

Thanks guys, so stand alone it is.
He's only aiming for 280 - 300hp as this should be fun in such a light car. What's limits of the gearbox?

As Frank mentions, it's the torque and not the BHP that kills the gearbox.

Even with Jubu's and gearbox oil coolers they still break at over 200 ft lbs with some gentle abuse.

We will have to agree to disagree on that point, all of the 2ZZ cars in Lotus Cup changed rods as they were breaking. And 400whp is no problem with another supercharger.. Yes of course the gearboxes on these cars are the weak point but with some careful building and different gear kit they can have an extended life.

You are dreaming if you can make the gearbox handle 400 hp, unless it make less than 170 ft tq.

RC post up your work I gotta see this 400 hp supercharged 2ZZ and C60 gearbox combo.

Once you get to the point of changing gearbox internals, wouldn't it be cheaper to just shove a K20 in and boost that?
