S2 Elise trip meter query

Apologies if this has been asked before but I searched and couldn't find anything.
I'm struggling to reset the trip meter. It's a 2008 model and I followed the instructions telling me to turn on the ignition then briefly press the button on the steering column. However this just changed the trip mileage to 0km/hr. Which I assume is to assist with overseas use.
Any advice please?

Press it once to go to km readout then press again to go back to trip.
Then press and hold for 3 secs, job done.
