After a head gasket failure earlier in the year I've finally got round to getting the head off. Now what I'm looking for is someone who can do all the clever stuff to recondition it.
Looking on fleabay a place called redmans engines offers this kind of service, I was wondering if anyone has used them? Or any other recommendations in the Aberdeen area?

Cheers, Craig

Is it really significantly cheaper to get it reconditioned than to buy a new one? Or are you thinking of power upgrades?

I've used redmans for parts when building my K, they were well priced and very helpful.

Not near you, but if you're happy to fit the bits yourself I'd talk to Roger at Sabre Heads.

Obviously there's always a danger the head may be scrap and not worth saving, some are more porous than others I believe.

Really happy with the work Rog did on mine though, and I know countless other Elise owners are too.

Failing that, worth dropping Dave Andrews - DVA - a line to see what he can do, but both will have a waiting time.

As said, distance doesn't have to be an issue - chap I spoke to had his head shipped from Holland to Rog, so Aberdeen isn't that far these days!

Kiwi Roger at Sabre heads has a big following on Seloc.

Worth a chat with him.

Not upgrading, there is enough power for my needs! It's a couple of hundred quid cheaper to fix than to replace, and I'm a tight wad

Before doing any significant/costly work on a K-series head it's well worth getting the unit checked for hardness/porosity.

Both are simple and quick tests - but will essentially rule out you investing time and £'s in scrap.
