My AO48s are dead (2.0mm left...) and I'd like to keep going through the winter. What would people recommend?

I'm looking for something that will deal sensibly with wet roads/leaves and standing water, rather than an actual winter/cold weather tyre - it'll be tucked up in the garage if it's snowing. smile Might do a late autumn track day as well, but nothing too crazy.

AD08s are a less extreme tyre, I would have thought that you could put 205/45/16s on the front of an Exige.

You can. No probs at all. And AD08's are fantastic IMHO, come summer or winter.

Agree, changed my A048's last December for AD08's and they almost as good as the A048's in the dry and far better in the wet.

AD08's discontinued, they were great in wet and dry, not so great in snow but I got where I needed to go with care. I just ordered a full set of the replacement AD08R's, apparently softer and more silica so supposed to be better in the cold and wet, just won't last quite as well as the old AD08. The new rating system gives them a 'B' for wet weather performance.

I will report back in a few weeks as to my thoughts.

I got 225/45/16 & 195/50/15 for £411 delivered from Demon Tweeks.

If you're determined to drive it in all conditions then the snowsport/sottozero combo will do the job. I have a set with two winters done if you're interested: despite the hilarity of overtaking SUVs and pickups floundering on snowy mountain roads, I'm a bit circumspect after noting the hard way that you can't expect others to use use appropriate winter boots. So my Exige will probably have another winter of leisure.

Generally I have been very happy with my Falken ZE-912's for this purpose. They have been very reassuring when the weather turns bad. I have done lots of driving in heavy rain and they cope with standing water well. They are sold as all season value and performance. They come in standard exige sizes of 195/50R16 & 225/45R17. They do get a but squirmy if you over drive them on hot summer roads but thats not what you are asking is it. wink
