Any recommendations? Had my VX220 setup at Track Group after having a visit to Elise Parts and made a vast improvement.

Looking for somewhere more local.

Blackboots (Wheels in Motion) in Chesham were excellent.

I've booked in with WIM in Chesham, he did my mx5 many years ago. I will see how it goes, he doesn't do corner weighting and tried to dismiss it as pointless on a light weight car, also dismissed the effect of driver weight.

My VX220 handled and felt more stable than my MX5 under braking and I put that down to Track Group chucking ballast in to represent driver weight before starting to set it up when the did it.

Miles, the MR2 has just had a new rear subframe and so I went for a set of the MR2 Championship regulation coilovers seeing as it all had to come apart. Will have to see what you think at Combe in November.

Tony @ WIM is great, they don't do the corner weighting but do set the car (my Elise) up with the 75kg weights in the driver seat. As it turned out they proved my supplying dealer had done the setup perfectly without the weights.

I asked for a fast road setting (recommended from Simon Scuffham) and it was all brilliant in terms of service and advice. I wrote the experience up for Club Lotus magazine - happy to dig it out if anyone wants a read. May still be on WIM's wall.

Corner weighting is pretty important, particularly as these cars are light. If a car is all straight and the springs are very high quality (ie Ebiach) AND you are very experienced in corner weighting the cars in theory you should be able to get the car in the bubble before it hits the scales but without getting it on the scales there will always be a question mark over whether everything is correct.

There is a difference here between doing a basic wheel alignment and doing a proper setup. There are plenty of people who can have a crack at the former and very, very few who do a good job at the latter.

Steve Williams is in Maidenhead which I'm sure you meant to type James.

New rear subframe? Preventative maintenance or something serious, I hope it was the former?

I thought it handled well on the previous setup, so will be good to see what it's like on the latest ones smile

Roll on November!

Preventative, they are known to rust and on inspection toe link mount area that passes by the exhaust had a hole in it.

Randy, going to get the car aligned at WIM on Saturday, all booked in. I have coil overs that are height adjustable by lower lock ring independent of preload of the springs so I guess can be corner weighted without disturbing the alignment The cars an MR2 as you'll have gathered rather than a Lotus but would you be happy corner weighting it? Its little different weight and balance wise to an Late Exige S, I guess its a good bit under the tonne full fluids as lost quite a bit from standard. I used to bring my VX220 to you at Hoffmanns for its servicing (you also bought a front clam off me :-) ) so know you are just down the road.

You always do corner weight before the static alignment and you set the ride heights up before the corner weights. There is a fair bit of bump steer both front and rear in the VX platform so changes to ride heights inc corner weight adjustment will have an effect on the toe.

I'm very happy to simply corner weight a car, and please call to discuss. However to get the right result you need to look at setting corner weights as one part of a complete setup, doing is piecemeal won't give you the best from your car. I'm conscious of the no advertising on this forum so trying to keep to offering advice as opposed to selling services and hope this isn't going to be taken the wrong way!!

If you end up changing camber by a large amount amount then you should go back and check your corner weights (especially if running wide wheels and tyres).

Chris setup my Europa corner weights and geo and it was very good.
