Just wondering is the above obtainable yet?

Reason I ask is I've had an s1 and s2....sold the s2 in a mad moment but i'm back in the market and toying with an early s1...however i'm rather spoilt at present having a nice tax exempt MGB roadster which costs peanuts to run....so wondering if early s1 are classed as classics yet ?smile

No they're not.
I had a kit car before my S1. The kit car was valued at £6k more and had similar performance to the Elise.
The best quote I could get for the Elise on a similar 3000 limited mileage policy was at least £150 more. Then having to tax a limited mileage car always feels like a kick in the teeth.
It's a shame, because an Elise is so good in every other way. Half the price of a RWD Elan.

Not sure about classics, I think there are some classic policies that'll cover them.

There are some cheap specialist policies available though, I pay under £300 a year for 3k miles inc mods.

My 2000 S1 is on a classic policy - try Lancaster, good deal at circa £225 a year despite no NCD as it is being used on my daily car.

I have been offered a 'classic' policy but the name means nothing. There are plenty of insurers offering policies for specialist vehicles with similar conditions as you would expect with a classic car policy and with reasonably low premiums.

Yes you can get a classic policy, but as previously mentioned be careful what you are paying for.

My Elise was insured on a conventional policy, but when my insurer merged with another they offered a classic policy at renewal in order to keep my premium at the same sort of level. The following year the renewal premium remained the same £250-300, but the following year increased dramatically. I researched and found I could get a conventional policy for just over £200. However as classic policies don't accrue NCD, you will lose any existing NCD if lapsed for 2 years. I managed to change before this happened and have kept my 14 years NCD. I'm not convinced all classic policies offer the value expected.

Don't focus on whether the policy is classic or not, focus on the best quote offered.

I also have business use on my elise for £214, something not availabe on a classic policy.

I didn't realise that, though I guess if the Elise is a 2nd car then the NCD doesn't matter as it wouldn't be applied against that car would it?

If you don't mind who are you insured with?

I rang Chris Knott who my daily drive is with and they wanted £470 to add an Elise to my name. I am taking this figure as a worst case scenario and looking to make a few calls (open to suggestions) over the next few days to find something hopefully better - I'm 30, 7yrs NCB (although in use on the daily), no points or accidents and low risk post code. £470 seems a lot to me?

Cheers.

I have 2 cars each with their own NCD.

I can't recall who I'm with but it was one of the main insurers possibly Aviva. I always use confused.com when renewals are due, significant savings can be made. Well worth spending 5 minutes putting your details in and seeing what the best quote is. The beauty is that your details are there next year so it's easy getting an updated quote.

I simply go with the cheapest option that offers what I am looking for, if there's only a few pounds between the best and my existing insurer I will probably stick with what I have, but I refuse to be taken for a mug, as some many others seem only too happy to.

I will check who I'm with when home, but this may be a couple of days.

Regards, Neil
Just checked, it is Quotemehappy which is Aviva.
