Well the Exige V6 Roadster is limited to 140ish to protect the roof, apparently, so it should be good up to that speed.

Been at Brands and saw a chap in front of me at the end of the main straight whose roof came of just as he was starting to brake for paddock Hill bend.

Is there much work involved converting an S2 Exige to take a soft top? Could it be something to do with that?

The car came with the soft top in the boot. Fits snug

Maybe the cables need tightening to hold the front edge closer to the seal?

I asked a similar question at the weekend. Having found that my recent purchase of an Exige 2006 had a soft top in the back, I had thought that it wasn't advised to place a soft top on an Exige. I wanted to know what the score was and popped into Lotus Silverstone.

The repsonse was that, the new Exige Roadsters are limited (to 140mph I believe) because having either no top or a soft top is detremental to the downforce of the car - and therefore I can imply, dangerous too.

Simply doing trips up and down the motorway and through country roads should be ok with the soft top on as you would never really be able to reach the dizzy heights of 140mph on the open road. The track however is different.

Captain Muppet - I have the holes to place the roof bars already in my Exige. Do you? Reason I ask is that I didn't see them immediately.

I don't have an Exige. I just asked as I thought it might be a factor in the roof coming off.

Same structure, different type approval. So fine to do it but be wary if your Exige is not insured as a convertible!

.
That was me, just as I went under the bridge at the end of the straight, the front tensioning wire came unscrewed and the roof jumped out of the securing slots.

I posted the video..will try and find it and post the link.

EDIT: found it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lvcXCHDJqTE
