Best Elise Aero
Discussion
I would not mess with an Elise's look without ensuring you have the absolute best suspension set up and have exhausted your own ability. These factors account for huge chunks of time, aero counts for tenths.
With diffusers and splitters, you've got the increased chance of doing damage if you have an off. If you think you're billy big bks, then come race in LCUK and the answer is quite simple: do whatever you can within the regs

I should have been a bit more truthful from the start.I have a kit car and was looking at getting some ideas from Lotus about aero.
A friend has a R1 Fury, he has worked out that he is doing approx 37mpg as a steady cruse on the motorway.
He has almost a full flat floor and a bit of a diffuser out the back. I was looking at using some of the Lotus ideas to improve my aero.
That's why I was asking.
I don't have the available funds to race and I have had no training. Im looking at doing some car limits days once I have the car sorted.
Thanks for the replys
I shall be going for a front splitter and the SC rear spoiler on my 111R Elise. Not because I'm off to the Ring or anything, the front end just feels a bit light at motorway speeds.
The front splitters are pretty subtle really and as long as you don't destroy it on a stump/kerb etc it should be fine. As for the SC rear spoiler, I just like the look of the SC but cant justify spendinding 10K over the value of mine to get the look. £300 of spoiler will do just fine thanks

The tiny little splitter at std Elise suspension heights will make bugger all difference. And I really doubt your Elise is getting light at motorway speeds, and if it is then it's something else. It looks 'racy' and that's the real reason you're doing it. (; Nothing wrong with that but don't kid yourself. What are you trying to achieve? Better fuel economy? Better balance (if so which way does it need to be adjusted)? It might be useful to know what type of kit car it is, too. I have a kit car and was looking at getting some ideas from Lotus about aero.

Its a Fisher Fury with a 2.0 Zetec. I'm looking for better fuel economy. (sounds silly I know) Then balance.
I was really looking for information on if anyone has found that the aftermarket splitters and such are noticeably better than what lotus have done.
I would then try to implement similar things to the Fury.
I do a big tour of the Alps every year (Pyrenees and Alps this year) and am in the process of changing from Weber 45's to injection to try to get the mpg up a bit.
Im thinking aero mods could also help.

Also, just about everything you bolt on will increase drag.
Given that the Fury already has quite a sharp cut-off at the back, I don't think anything you add is going to significantly reduce drag (with the possible exception of a roof).
If you find that the front-end lifts at speed, you might benefit from a splitter but it's not going to have an appreciable effect on drag either way.

I'd start by getting this book out of the library:
Competition Car Aerodynamics
It'll give you some ideas to try, and tell you how to make and test them.
