Has anyone ever considered having an EcoBoost 1.0/1.6/2.0 swap done?

The 1.0 variant in the Formula Ford does sound the business and runs 220 BHP with the turbo from the 1.6. Is there scope for more power there?

What weight advantages (or disadvantages) would there be in fitting one of these to an Elise compared to a Duratec/K Series?

I wonder if it shares engine mount locations with the Duratec?

Wouldn't want a turbocharged engine in an Elise personally, but I suppose some might. No idea what it weighs.

The 1.0 Ecoboost fits on an A4 piece of paper, it's tiny! Lovely drive too smile

I thought I read somewhere that it's nearly as heavy as a Duratec, but I might have imagined that.

The Formula Ford used at the Nurburgring was 220bhp, but for longevity I understand it has been dropped to 170bhp.

I also gather 220bhp was the limit.

Yeah its small but an iron block for the 1.0T. The 1.6 and 2.0 are aluminium - I think the 1.6 is barely any heavier than the 1.0.

Over the last 18 months we have been building an EcoBoost 1.6L Elise in our spare moments and we'll be testing over the coming months. The EcoBoost 1.0L didn't produce enough torque in a 'safe' form for the weight of the 111 platform cars (remember that the formula cars are around 420kg's and Elises are around 820kg's).

Engine dyno figures stacked up really well giving well over 200bhp and more than 230 lb/ft in a nice linear power delivery. Lots of scope for stretching that as the bottom end is very strong. We have achieved almost original weight balance in the car after installation allowing suspension config to remain unaltered and most original components beside the engine to be re-used.

I can't say too much more other than come to our workshops if you want to see progress and discuss options. We are very pleased and excited with the project and it has gained a lot of media interest so you will start to see some press towards the end of the summer - possibly some TV coverage!

Production components will be produced ready for winter installations. All engines are brand new and come with our own chargecooler system, warranty and a power graph etc (the usual Hangar 111 type stuff). Note image below shows original intercooler which has been replaced by a new design chargecooler system.

A few friends pointed me to this post, so I thought I better say something (thanks guys!). We are usually so busy here I don't get time to post on forums but Twitter and Facebook I usually get a minute to pop some snippets on so worth following us if you want up-to-date updates.

It will most likely be with us at the Brands Hatch Lotus festival (23-25th August) lurking in the paddock while we are racing our S1 that weekend.

Best,
Greg @hangar111

As an owner of both an Elise and 1.0 ecoboost Fiesta I'm not at all sure I'd want to do this.
The engine is perfectly suited to the Fiesta, and you cant argue with the numbers, but in terms of character and throttle response it's just does nt feel that fun an engine - it's hard to describe really.
Of course mapping may solve this, I'm just not convinced that this will provide the motoring nirvana that the pure figures might suggest. I stand to be corrected once conversions start being completed though.

K series is currently in production as a turbo with all the faults fixed, (porous castings, HGF, thermostat), straight plumb in swap and alloy block.
A 1 year old MG6 is worth £8k so any bumps and thats a cheap engine available.
That ford effort shown above looks great though.

As an owner of a B-Max with a 1.0 Ecoboost and an Exige S, I would say mating an elise/exige with the more powerful 1.6 would be ideal. The power delivery is very linear, and seems quite torquey for what it is. So the 1.6 with 200bhp in a lighter car, ie an Elise should be great. Look forward to seeing this finished

for the cost of the conversion you could build a very healthy rover k series turbo

be it a 1.4 or a 1.8 200bhp is easy for both 280 not much more difficult

Personally i just dont see the point in engine transplants unless you are going north of 300bhp

The eco boost is not designed to be revved either, only benefit would be 60mpg plus
