Elise s2 radiator fans
Discussion
Hi all,
I have a 2004 111s with an upgraded radiator (purchased by previous owner), and have started to notice that when in hot conditions whilst stationary the car is getting up to temps above 100 degrees.
I started to switch off the car whilst stuck in traffic but wanted to find out if there is a fix for this. There is no fan fitted above the radiator so I wondered if there is one below it? And perhaps it has stops working.
I also was looking at if a top mounted one could be fitted within the small gap between the clam and radiator. Any thoughts and recommendations?
Trying to find out if this is a common problem and if it can be fixed.
Thanks

The fan(s) should come on at 103deg and turn off when the temperature gets down to 96deg. I believe you can disconnect a sensor to test if the fan(s) work (edit: link to SELOC thread http://arc.seloc.org/viewthread.php?tid=123502&... .)
Hopefully the previous owner fitted new fans when the radiator was changed.

The fan's don't come on very often, so can frequently get corroded and lock. You can make sure they turn freely by feeling through the front grill and using a pencil or similar to make sure they spin (obviously with the engine off). It's a clam off job to repace, but only about £50 per fan.

Replaced mine with the clam on On my Elise R the fans cut in at an indicated 106°C. They deteriorate with time and 'intermittent' use. Mine lived outside and I would imagine that this didn't help, particularly during the winter months. For people buying, to me it's a must check item. Winter sellers have an advantage as it doesn't always spring to mind as something to look out for. I was always advised it's a clam off repair.
