Passenger door lock struggling to unlock

Just noticed today that the passenger door wasn't open when I went to open the door to remove the roof. So I went to use the lock and unlock button and found that the lock pin is struggling to unlock when you press it.
Is this a serious problem I should correct immediately, or should I remove the door car and inspect it?
