Hi

After having had my Elise insured with CCI for the past four years, I received an abrupt letter today saying they won't be able to renew my policy due to Aviva's terms and conditions...

Has anyone else has this?

I did try to contact them by phone but gave up after being on hold for 15 minutes...

Thanks

Andrew

Lots have had this - its due to their underwriters Aviva not wanting to cover Elises for under 40's anymore.

There are a few good alternatives now. I switched to Manning, and 1 Answer Insurance Brokers have started doing some very good quotes for Lotus owners.

Yep, give Richard at One Answer a call. They covered my car better than CCI for less with an agreed value and were very helpful.

I look forward to receiving this on my renewal then...my policy is underwritten by Aviva but with another broker.

This only applies to the Elise. Using the appropriate "Man Maths" now is the chance to upgrade to the Exige.

Not sure if this rule is Elise's only but there have been a lot of changes to CCI policies, On my Vipers the premiums have rocketed this year, the big factor seemed to be having commuting included on the policy and their new millage ranges which put the initial renewal for a higher millage than I needed. As a result I have had to trim back the policies to closer to what I do need rather than what I may need, end result was a lower premium, good for me not so good for them as I will still be driving the car the same so their risk is no different.

Hope they don't bring this in for vipers and if they do they wait for renewal as at least by then I will qualify anyway. Not so many alternatives for vipers

What have Aviva got against the Elise then?!

Thanks for the suggestions of other insurers.

Apparently it applies to the Elise and 2-Eleven, but not the Exige. Really strange. I've been a constant customer of there's since 2002 when I bought my Caterham, and then from 2005 till 2012 with my Elise and 2012 to now with my 2-Eleven. I've never made a claim, so have been good business for them over the years. I'm 36 now though so had to change at renewal time in May. I'm now with REIS insurance instead, who were very friendly and efficient and gave me a good quote with good cover - I'd recommend them.

It seemed weird to me too that CCI (or should I say Aviva) were just getting rid of people like me who just rung up and renewed each year and were never any bother to them, especially with a car like the 2-Eleven which is clearly doted over like a Caterham, Exige or similar.

I renewed with CCI for my 111R in June and was told about the commuting cover accounting for the increase so removed this, dropped the mileage to 4k and renewed for <£300. Being somewhat beyond 40 helps I guess. It's good to hear that there are some reasonable alternative though.

CCI are total arses, they NEVER answer calls or return them. Second year running with REIS.

What's so hard to understand? The Elise is relatively cheap to buy so lots get bought and the under 40s are clearly a bunch of crashy bds. For the 211 you wouldn't need more than a couple of big repair bills or the odd write off for it to quickly become a loss maker given they won't have too many on the books.

Have gone with one answer - almost £300 cheaper than REIS and with higher mileage limit!

Your argument for the Elise is sound as they are within reach of a lot more people now, and also people tend to be more careful with a £20k car than a £10k - on average I'm sure. However, 2-11 values haven't really dipped much below £30k so I'd have thought it should be in a similar bracket to the Exige, except the repair costs on a 2-11 are cheaper because the bodywork is 12 bolted on panels rather than just two clam shells - that was one of the key desin philosophies of the car compared to the 340R or Elise/Exige.

I bet the average repair bill of the 211 is eye wateringly high. Put it this way if the insurance companies were making good money on insuring 211s then they would continue to do it. If an insurance company decides to stop covering them it will invariably be because they lost money on them. It's not as if they'll have loads on their books so they just need one or two big repair costs to tip the balance the wrong way.
