Hi,
So after last weekend's disappointing experience of finding out the car is a CAT D after driving 2.5 hours to see it I thought I'd try again.... So I'm going to see this one tomorrow :

I must have a thing for broken splitters as this one is also damaged but has been repaired apparently. Apart from that is there anything else to look out for? Its a Lotus dealer and the car comes with a warranty so I should hope it should all be fine

Quite a common problem , but more importantly one of the most expensive to put right cos the box has to come out and its a specialist job to renew the worn syncros.
Better oil helps a lot to stave off the problem.
I'm told by a highly regarded race gearbox builder that it happens largely become Toyota use a narrow 'V' shape on the cones ..
I use redline MT90 in my newly rebuilt box and the syncros are super smooth.

The car was as described.
The marks in the picture on the splitter are where it was damaged but true to their word that had all been repaired.
There are some scratches in the paintwork on various bots of the bodywork but nothing too serious and again, they had already told me about this before I drove over there. Some scuffing to the gear knob which was perhaps more than I would have expected but they will replace that.

maybe when the gearbox problems apair you better put in a stronger box also for future power upgrades...
I believe there was some older gearbox from a Toyota MR2 Turbo the E153 or so?
and indeed I also came across something like this solution up to 400nm, translated in hp, how much 'power' could that be?>

The simply sports cars solution is the one I'm currently using ..rated at up to 280 lb/ft which is way above what I should ever need.I believe there was some older gearbox from a Toyota MR2 Turbo the E153 or so?

At present im at 307 bhp 205 ish lb/ft ....
As mentioned some seem to get the ever so common 3rd gear problem, so putting mt90 gear oil is worth while for £50ish.
did you check the tyres???? That's only thing from looking at the pics that would cost you to replace if bodywork has all been sorted.
But anyway its a Toyota engine so has great reliability where that is concerned and worse case its from a dealer so you should get a 12 month+ warranty with car anyways which would cover any mechanical issues etc.

Yep, I left a deposit on it.
Ok so I should be asking for the gear oil to be changed for MT90. Is this a problem for that particular model year or all Exige S cars?
The tyres have been replaced with new ones, not certain but I think they are AD048 ? Whatever the standard fitment from new is in any case.
It has also had a service and new brake pads and an MOT so I should be sorted for a while I think.

All years it's the same box in all cars just hit or miss if it happens or not ive been lucky so far mine is fine.
And yep ao48 are standard tyres (be careful in wet though with them being semi slicks they don't like water too much but once the roads are dry they are great )
Very nice I'm sure you will be happy with it
