Hello pistonheaders, I hopefully pick my first lotus up next week, a 2012 club racer. It's the spec I wanted and the car is absolutely perfect for what I wanted. The only negative is that it doesn't have a stereo or speakers. Do any of you lotus yodas know if the wiring is still in place behind the dashboard blanking plate? And behind the speaker casings on the dash and behind the seats?

Thanks guys

I don't know about the wiring. Isn't that the point of the club racer, it's as light as possible? If you spend money making it heavier, wouldn't you be better off buying a normal Elise?

It doesn't have air con, sound deadening, central locking, proper seats, proper badging, carpets or a proper battery. I do need to get to tracks and occasionally listen to a tune or two!

And I don't think 2kgs of audio equipment will make much of a difference in the grand scheme of things, Speshly when it can be removed in half an hour or so and I've already saved weight with a lighter zorst, or will when I get the car.

Take your point tho!

Try it without the radio first. I took mine out my S1 and drove from Swindon to Scotland and back last weekend and didn't bother me, actually found it means you concentrate more on the road without the distraction. Worst case you could just try some headphones as earplugs are advisable on long runs with the roof off anyway.

For any future owners that use the power of google, i can confirm that behind the dash blanking plates are the wires for the head unit (iso type) and behind the blanks where the speakers go there are positive and negatives to go to the speakers.

So in theory you can purchase a set of 100mm speakers for the front, 130mm speakers for the back and just a standard single DIN head unit if you REALLY want a stereo system. i haven't done the above, i took thorburns advice and bought a brand new fiat 500c to carry around my ipod and have a radio in it and the elise will just be a car to take me to silverstone (in silence) and drive cautiously down country lanes (with the aid of a 2bular)...

Don't know if you've already ordered your 2bular but due to a cancelled order I have one up for grabs with a hard top and a 2010 Exige rear spoiler too. Totally gutted that the sale fell through as not only am I missing out on a fantastic car I'm also stuck with loads of unwanted upgrades too. The 2bular is brand new still in the box. Pm me if interested

To be honest you're probably wasting your time and money... you won't be able to hear a decent sound !

Mine's an '06 111R (bespoke) base car which is now very much the same spec as the Club Racer (no sound proofing, air con etc.) with the exception of fitted carpets (which I fitted myself) and the radio that came with the car... which I keep the head in the boot, it's that much of a waste of time.

I've just fitted JL audio 165mm in the back and will be fitting 100mm focal polyglass in the front with a foot well compact active sub. This is a big enhancent which allows for a reasonable sound level. Sub will be removeable.......

did you fit these into your new Exige? how did you get the 165mm speakers in the back? when i was going to put some speakers in mine i measured and was sure the holes were only 130mm?

where did you get the exige from if you don't mind my asking? i saw lotus silverstone had one in, i was tempted to hold the place up and drive off with it...
