A cross post from SELOC, so my apologies in advance.

My "quick minor service and MOT" is turning into a monster.

Nitron Streets now fitted (this wasn't a surprise).
My Larini sports cat appears to have failed again, and wants another rebuild. An Elise Parts sports cat is probably going on instead.
And, my "odd speedo problem" is giving me concern.

Basically, my speedo plays up. Sometimes it sticks, sometimes the needle moves with speed but indicates the wrong speed. Sometimes the needle moves at what appears to be 50% of the correct rate.

Sometimes all three.

A reset always cures it, but then it comes back within a few miles.

A new battery appeared to cure it for a short time, but we're back where we started.

I hoped it was a speedo sensor, but my odo appears to work normally....

So, any thoughts on cause?
Do the Shurlock clusters fail in this manner? If so, are they repairable, or is it new cluster time?

Take off the rear left wheel and check the plastic connector behind the brake disc.

I assume that's the sensor?
It's not the sensor (I really hoped that it was)

Regarding the link, potentially useful. I've not tried disconnecting everything and leaving it. The battery does regularly go flat however....

The connector connects sensor to loom and is often the weakpoint leading to speedo problems. Undo the connector and inspect the contacts for rust/dirt.

Will try; anyone got a link to a handy guide to removing the cluster (or is the connector accessible by removing the speaker?)
