programming a cobra 6422 transmitter / touch key
Discussion
I recently bought my first Elise which is a 1999 / 111s and is everything I hoped for - except for the alarm system (cobra 6422). Unfortunately the previous owner lost both the spare transmitter and the touch key so I only have one transmitter key left. I have the original cobra installation certificate and the alarm transmitter code from Lotus and bought a new transmitter and a new touch key through a dealer but no one there seems to be able to programme the touch key so I cannot programme the other key as the instructions. The dealer is looking into it with Lotus but I wondered if anyone else has any ideas. Any help much appreciated before I lose the last key!
It's hopeless !! I've got the same on my Esprit, but I've got the touch thing. I've tried loads of car alarm places and they all say you need a Cobra dealer but non of them seems to know any !! The Cobra web site is a pile of old toss as well. Good luck ! And if you find anything out then can you let me know ?

Light at the end of the tunnel. Apparently Cobra used a particular piece of kit and software called something like 'winjolly'. Kelvedon Motors (01775 725457) have one so I'm going up next week to hopefully sort it.
Hi did you ever manage to get your more kepypads coded for your alarm ??
thanks
Jonathan
I have an early s1 and only had one remote for the cobra alarm / immobiliser. Went to my local cobra stockist who took the number off the remote I had, and ordered the remote pre programmed from cobra.
Are the buttons on your new remote the same colour as the old ones? I have blue and yellow buttons on my original but green and yellow on my new one. Apprently cobra had to change something on the circuits in the new one to make it work.
I don't have a touch key either and was told at the time that you couldn't programme a new touch key without an original one. Not sure if this is correct but it is what I was told.

Seems everyone has a different story for this. I have the round fob with grey buttons and need to get a new one.
2 authorised cobra dealers in the SE, on in Orpington, one in Maidstone... both said totally different things but both wanted the car in for a day to "interrogate the alarms computer, deprogram the old fob and touch key and reprogram new ones".
Does this sound familiar or complete bo
ks?
Quote was around £140

Ouch! I hope that's not correct.
I just have the one remote fob, and no imobiliser tag or over-ride key. I've managed to get a new spare key fob (there's a guy selling them on Ebay for £17 if anyone needs one), but I now need to get it programmed, for which I gather I need the touch-key

Same issue jimbob, although I do have an override. Did you get it from the guy in Israel?
Manual says it can all be reprogrammed by jumping thru hoops and getting your gran to write a letter etc. but I've heard some horror stories.
Anyone from the dealerships/Lotus know what the true sketch is?

I'll pop over to Wilsons if I get a chance - see what their take on it is.
As an aside, I just checked my oil, and there appears to be no markings on the bottom of the dipstick (seems to have snapped of at some point). Anyody know if I'm right to assume this is just a standard 1.8 K series dipstick, and not a Lotus special?

Appreciate it if you'd post on here with whatever they tell you. Gonna have to get it sorted at some point. Cheers jim.
Well I have phoned round everywhere now. JCT600 Lotus Deal Told me there is nothing you can do with the 6422HF Alarm if you don't have at least one touch key, he said they have had a few like this and had to have new alarms fitted cost £280 - for a new Cobra CAT 1. They don't make the old one so you have to have full new kit installed. I would go to that Keldon Motors but is is 4hrs away for me.
Cobra Technical Number is 01932 732331 if anyone has a different alarm and want help.
Right just spoke to CObra Technical AGAIN. He informs me that this tool people have mentioned earlier in the list "winjolly" is a tool that plugs into the Alarm and can only be used on the older alarm 6019HF, the newer Alarm 6422HF requires at least one working touch key. Oh and to make matters worse they don't stock the 6422HF anymore so it is a brand new alarm. Looks like i'll be looking after my last remaining keyfob really well for the time being.
I bought my 2000 S1 a few months ago and it also only had one transponder and no touch keys with the upgraded Cobra alarm fitted.
I spoke to Bell and Colvill and they charged me (I think) about £90 for a new transponder, two touch keys plus the recoding of the alarm. All done quickly with the minumum of fuss (got charged about 1/2 hours labour plus parts).

That sounds more like it - I think I'll call them when I want to get mine re-done.
