I suspect it would have to be an unrepaired write-off to get it for that money.

You are Joking aren't you? 15k will buy you a high mileage car you'll need to add 5k at least to get something decent

Will be tricky, but i picked up my '04 111r, 31k mileage, for £12.5k a little over a year ago. It had no noted service history, and the front clam had encountered a speed hump...however, managed to trace the full service history through Westover Lotus 9plus new book all stamped up), and had the front clam repaired (to perfection) for £700...so all in a little over £13k, so there are bargains out there...just not many of them.

£20k+ to get a decent 111R?! Not a chance.

By and large (not sure how many cars are on the market at this second) there are often plenty of choices for comfortably under £20k (may have to wait until summer again).

Even NA Exiges tend to be in the £17-19k mark, so there's no way the majority of 111Rs are worth £20k+

First link - dealer car, 20k miles, bet you could barter down to £15,500.

Only £20k car on your list is supercharged, and still bet it'll struggle.

Think the target price of around £12K is perhaps slightly optimistic but no more than that. Should find a high mileage (+80K) 2004 car to be around the 12-13K mark on a private sale. Even at trade they go for around £14.5K. If you really don't care about the condition then I think you'll find one for the price you're proposing. For 20K you're into a 2008 with all options and under 20000 miles without any difficulty at all. As for the WB car, it would be about right on price except for the colour which may please some people but on the whole is difficult to sell, but still over budget

I'm suprised that you haven't yet been asked whether you are sure that the 111R is really the best car to be the basis of your race car. If you look hard enough you'll probably be a shade away from finding race-ready S1 elise which while slightly down on power the lower weight results in similar power/weight ratio.

Just px my mint 54 plate 111r at Murray motors in Edinburgh. Only 36k on the clock and that shouldn't be far of £15k

Service history in my ownership, just had complete rear suspension refresh and fitted with tubular exhaust

To be fair, mine was on its 3rd set of dampers, second set of bushes / 3rd set of balljoints at 70-80k - it's probably not that surprising. You can get more out of them, but drive them hard and things like balljoints are almost consumables on the Elise.

Rear dampers were slightly leaking so took the opportunity to replace them along with the springs and toe-links.

plenty around if you look hard at circa 13k, you'll struggle at 12k unless it has issues. we've done about 10 of these now and have paid anything between 11k for a repaired cat d to 14k for a low mileage 2004. The last one was a good but high mileage 2006 Sports Racer which was about 13k.

if you're converting to race car you can easily raise over £1000 from selling the wheels, seats etc

Dont know about that. http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/l... is low mileage well equipped and you can be sure that the dealer has bought it for a couple of grand less than the advertised 16k. So with a bit of haggling he should be able to get near his price limit - after all he doesnt want / need a lot of the extras in a race car.
