Exige V6 Cup - bit of a bargain surely?
Discussion
Maths was never a strong point but the Cup would appear to be something of a bargain when you look at the specs.
Exige S - £52,900 basic.
plus - race pack £2000,
tropheo tyres £800,
performance brake upgrade £2,295,
Nitron 2-way adjustable dampers £2.495,
harness bar £395,
race seats £995 each,
baffled sump £1495,
removable wheel and boss £495,
towing eyes £195.
It all comes to: £65,060 and that's without the Premium Sport Pack (£1500). Ok you do also get stereo, speakers, alarm, airbags and lots of sound deadening.
For £62k Lotus Motorsport give you all this plus a bespoke exterior and interior design, minus a full 100k, extra exclusivity and a Lotus Motorsport chassis number.
Given the extortionate amount Porsche charge to take things out of a 911, Lotus are offering very refreshing value money here surely?

I'm not sure I'd consider it a bargain. Yes if you where to add absolutely every available option to the V6 S (not that I think many people would) it would initially work out cheaper than the Cup, until you add air conditioning and your preferred paint (has to be Pearl White for my Cup) it works out basically the same.
I think the big thing to take into consideration is that the Cup is a much more focused car. It lacks pretty much any luxury, not even coming with a basic radio or speakers (though I am having them added into mine for my long treks to the Ring and Spa). There is no sound deadening in the car either. I think that while price 'may' be a consideration to buy the Cup, some serious thought needs to be applied as to wether it suits the individual. I would also think that buying the normal V6 S is no downgrade. It is by far the most remarkable car I've driven as of yet, and still contains the full rawness I expect from an Exige (though some would argue not quite as much as the S2 - but that is purely down to opinion).
Either car is fantastic. As a pure track and race enthusiast, I have chosen a Cup. But either way, it's a brilliant buy, in my opinion of course.

I think the CUP is currently the most exciting "reasonably affordable" car out there. Its the nearest thing to a TVR/Noble from a few years ago, that currently exists.
I'm currently sorely tempted by the B & C car they have for sale. I stupidly went to look at it a few weeks back, & i've thought about nothing else since!!!

Think you should make the jump and buy it! It does look fantastic! Treat yourself! I'm currently sorely tempted by the B & C car they have for sale. I stupidly went to look at it a few weeks back, & i've thought about nothing else since!!!

baffled by sound deadening.
that's a good one!
Exige S weighs 1176kg according to Lotus (some owners have put theirs on the scales and found they come in under this)
Exige V6 Cup - 1110kg
Exige V6 CupR - 1040kg
Cup is 66kg lighter but that includes the A-frame harness bar and large fire extinguisher bottle so they must removed more than 66kg to end up at 1110kg.
CupR carbon louvred engine cover saves another huge 30kg on its own and is available for the road legal Cup car along with the full-on racer's aero pack and carbon wing. To get down to 1040 you need to lose the storage space behind the engine too.
However there is room for further weight loss. Currently the S and Cup don't use any carbon bodywork or in the cabin and the wheels are still cast aluminium. Forged wheels and carbon parts are very likely to be in the pipeline, maybe even carbon ceramic discs one day too...

I wish you would hurry up and buy it!. The styling is a bit hit and miss for me and the overall package would cost to much as I would only be using it for track days and the occasional weekend blat, but I can't help going back and looking at the picture of the Gulf blue one from front on. I start getting silly thoughts and keep seeing my little head poking up from behind the steering wheel. My head says NO, but that picture tugs hard.
