There is something timeless about the S1. Looks as good and relevant today as it ever did.
A decent honda powered example is surely one of the standout collectables/keepers of the last 20 years ?
V6 looks great though, as does the RGB or 2010 S2.
The collectable ones will be the standard cars, not the modified stuff. The modified cars are undoubtedly better to drive.A decent honda powered example is surely one of the standout collectables/keepers of the last 20 years ?

I always regretted not buying an S1 Exige when I could afford one as I love the looks, but when I drove one it disappointed and the S2 never really floated my boat (preferred the equivalent Elise models), but the V6 is an absolutely stunning bit of kit.

Back in 2001 I had an S1 exige on loan for 3 months whilst my 340r was being 'sorted'. Like you I found it a real disappointment. It felt stodgy, laboured and very slow in comparison. It needs that Honda.
Don't get me wrong, I think they're better Honda'd and with a Nitron or similar suspension setup, but in terms of a car for a collector as opposed to a driver it will be all about the stock standard cars. Thorburn said:
