Hi All,

as you might have seen in my drivetowork video in my other post, I've come across the steamed up window problem.
My 111s doesn't have Air Con as the tight ar$se who bought the car decided not to bother with it :-) (not me I hasten to add)...

I came across this as an idea

Anyone else used this ? Does it work ?

It would be great if that works, stick it down the back of the seats

The principle is certainly sound - it's basically a normal caravan dehumidifier but in a bag instead of a plastic box. They do vary in effectiveness rather though, depending on the exact type of crystals used. Silica gel is the stuff they use to dehumidify electronics, so it's probably a pretty decent bet.

It wont work at its best behind the seats, though, because there wont be much air-flow back there. Better off putting it on the passenger seat when the car is parked, I'd imagine.

I have a couple of dehumidifier blocks that I place in the footwells when the car isn't being used, seems to do the trick and you can buy the blocks & refill kits from most hardware stores.

Just ordered one to try out. My car doesn't move for weeks sometimes and it's a PITA drying it out all the time in this weather.

Cheap version - Football sock filled with cat litter. When it's damp, stick it on the radiator to dry out and repeat smile

I considered that until I mentioned it to my mates who mocked me mercilessly.

I ordered 2x1kg bags from the place linked above. They should be delivered in the next few days. I'll report back on how good/bad they are.

Do you have carpets in your Elise?

Not so sure this would help in an Elise as I can't think of many places where moisture is trapped but one thing that could work is running a dehumidifier overnight to get all the moisture out.

I had an old 911 and I had to do this every couple of weeks.

Another thing that seemed to help - was that I would leave the windows open a crack - this more if the moisture is coming from your breath (so unlikely if its when you leave the car for a few weeks).

I've placed a plastic container type one in my Tamora and it's certainly working.

It's behind the driver's seat since that's where the damp was.

Yup it's 111s so has the relevant car mats (wouldn't say it was carpet really... In terms of where the moisture goes..it's on the inside of the windscreen :-))
I too have bought a 1kg bag type device (as per my first link)... I will report back.

Reporting back. Hasn't cured the problem completely but it it is a massive improvement. Some mornings it was taking 5 minutes with the aircon on and me with a cloth to dry the inside of the screen. Now a couple of wipes and it's done.

Definitely worth having

If your car is garaged and you have power to your garage then purchase a dehumidifier and fit a continuous drain from the machine to outside of the building. Keep the windows of your car open (only if your garage is secure of course) and your car and garage will be damp free in no time.... Also keeps corrosion at bay, works really well!!!
