After more than two years of 100% enjoyment my pride and joy is no more. Driven away by its new owner. Very sad day. On the positive side I'm now considering an Exige S2 or an Elise SC or a late 2008/2009 R.

Must highlight the fact that my Elise remains one of the most affordable cars I've ever owned. After two years and 19000 miles of use I recovered my initial outlay, so no depreciation. So apart from one moderately expensive repair (£500), my only costs have been two tyres and two services, (£750). That makes for £600 per year plus petrol and insurance. Bet you can't do that in a Porsche!!!!!!

Don't expect the same lack of depreciation from a 2009 car or you'll be sorely disappointed. hehe

Of course that all depends on how long he keeps it!
Maybe an appreciating asset ....just look at s1 exige values!
I personally think s2 Exige values will climb midtterm.

I think the S1 Exige was both rarer than the S2, and had more to differentiate it from the mainstream Elises. I can't see S2 Exige prices rising in the next ten years.

The 2-11, might be a different matter, though.

Incredibly dissappointed. Didn't manage to get another Lotus. Circumstances dictated that I needed to buy a car 'quickly' and the right car at the right price just wasn't available at the right time. Ended up with an Audi A3 Convertible. Great car for what it is but Im still craving. Sod's law also reared its ugly head because having ordered and paid for my new car, a Lotus that probably would have been suitable became available. To rub salt into the wounds, actually saw another Elise on the roads over here 2 days after picking up my car. (To put it into perspective, apart from Lotus gatherings in my two years of ownership I probably only ever saw two others on the road.) Have to keep the Audi for at least 18 months so Lotus ownership is probably over for me. Just so sad. My Elise was the best car I've ever owned in my lifetime for various reasons. In my eyes nothing looks as good, has the same performance or the same lowish running costs. Only positive side being that night time driving becomes less tiring as I'm no longer blinded by other cars. For the rest, the getting in and out, the road bumps, the stupid niggles that irritate just enough to be a nuisance, but never enough to put you off the car-all these things Ill sadly miss. I've got all mod cons, a stereo that knocks the Lotus Alpine unit into the dinosaur era, a roof that goes up and down at the push of a button, 40% less fuel consumption but its not a Lotus. Completely gutted but there we go.
