OK guys, help needed please!

I owned a TVR 4.5 Cerbera for some 8 years and loved it, only sold because I was made an offer to sell which seemed a good idea at the time...bad idea me now thinks!

Anyway, been looking at all sorts of replacement cars (well toys really) including Ferrari 355/360 amongst other high profile labels but I keep coming back to Exige. I don't know why this is and there must be something and a reason why I'm drawn to it so I've decided its a go'er. My Kids think I'm mad not going for a ferrari/ Aston Martin/ R8 etc but the Lotus is doing something for me...British engineering, I'm an engineer so could be the reason being I'm very patriotic (sorry for spelling, I'm an engineer!) and manage a British engineering company exporting worldwide, yes very proud!

So, in July when I get my money back (locked it away for 12 months to stop me spending it) I'm going to buy one but what should I look out for and no, I'm not buying a new one at 52K. Looking at an 08 plate perhaps but no newer and should I consider a standard Exige that someone has fitted a Supercharger to or stick with a factory fitted one? I see there are lots of options 05 plate onwards and upwards to almost new but where is money best spent?

Cheers for your time, I'm waiting with baited breath!

Interesting scenario. I was in the same place two years ago, moved from 9 years of Cerb ownership to a 2008 Exige S. The two cars are surprisingly similar. Both raucous, eccentric & wonderfully English.

They do compliment each other very well. Exige feels like a raw race car after the Cerb. I do feel as though I've learnt to drive properly since I moved to the Exige, & I couldn't believe how track driving has come alive since my change.

As for road drama, the Exige draws more attention than the Cerb, even though mine was bright Orange!!

It's a great next car in my view, you wouldn't regret it.

Worth registering on seloc.org and doing a search. Your budget will probably help decide whether you go for an Exige S with a factory supercharger or an n/a which has had one added. The non factory cars are generally a fair bit cheaper.

Well isn't that a coincidence! I did a few track days in the Cerbera and loved it which is probably one reason why I'm heading toward Exige - I recognise your PH-tag from the Cerbera forum. The Exige feeling like a raw race car compared to the Cerbera also appeals.

Thanks for your comments Simon, strange we share the same name also!

Hi Simon, I owned a 2008 Exige S for 2 years before having to sell it last year to fund a house move.

There are brilliant cars (though I"m a little biased). I had the 240bhp PP version which was plenty quick enough for enthusiastic road use and always a head turner. One of the great things about ownership is that they are cheap as chips to run, even the fuel economy is around the 30mpg mark.

If you have any specific questions then I'm more than happy to help, just drop me a u2u.

Hi Dave, thanks for you offer to help with any questions - love the colour of your ex-exige, chrome orange is that?

Hi Simon, you'll have to keep us posted on your deliberations, car changes are always exciting.
If you get one, get yourself over to Donington Park for one of the summer Trackdays, they're a revelation in the Exige. Also the TVR CC Cadwell Trackday is great. The Exige mixes it wonderfully with the TVRs.

Ex-Cerbera owner here too, although only about 3 years with mine. The Exige is a completely different proposition, but in a good way. I use mine daily but it's covered everything from nursery runs to 3000 mile trips round Europe to a couple of track days. As much as I enjoyed the Cerbera I wouldn't have felt so comfortable doing that with it.
I've got the 240PP with Sport and Touring options although I think I might have to take a sabbatical from sports cars in a year so that I can get some work done on the house and will need something a bit more spacious for a while. If I do have to sell (trying to avoid that scenario) I'll likely be back in one at some point.
