I know they're important, I really do... so I figure I should improve my grip a bit and change the Brigey's to AD07's and hang the expense....

I emailed the company that's currently "looking after" the car (hence the reason for new tyres) and asked for a quote for 4 AD07's. They quoted £920.00inc VAT. When I queried it I was told that this was because they had to get them "direct from lotus.." that well known branch of Yokohama.... Now on eliseparts.com they're £670 which by prodigious use of my mathematics skills works out at £250 for fitting and balancing !!!

I phone B&C and they quote me the same price (£670.77) as eliseparts... So either B&C are Eliseparts or they're buying them at dealer discount and selling to me for the same....hmmm what to do..

At this rate I'll just buy 'em from eliseparts and get my local kwik fit to fit 'em ! :-)

Anyone get their tyres from anyone else ? I'm in the Basingstoke / Hampshire area...
Are AD07's really the best tyres for my S2 ?

Get them bought and fitted yourself. If they're buying direct from Lotus they're fools, tell them to go to Yokohama who do overnight delivery on tyres. Make sure you get the LTS compound as well.

If you're looking at B&C then they offer an 8% discount on parts and labour for SELOC Club Supporters: http://www.seloc.org/membership/benefits/main-deal...

I believe the list pricing is more or less set by Lotus when it comes to parts?

Last time I needed new rears, LTS marked ADO7s were like hen's teeth, so following the comments from people who had already tried it, I am now running AD07 fronts and AD08 rears. The car feels the same to me.

Unless the guys looking after your car are a dealer, they won't be able to buy the tyres from Lotus so will be buying them from a dealer or EP and marking them up.

Buy them yourself from either B&C with a seloc discount if you're a supporter, or from EP, but don't take them to Kwik Fit - get someone better than that to fit them - someone who actually has a clue how to jack the cars up, balance the wheels well etc etc

I wouldn't let a KwikFit fitter anywhere near any of my cars - let alone the Elise......

Also consider AD08s for the rear as already said, and if they're not illegal wait until you've done your Walshy training day until you replace them. Knackered Bridgies will let the car move around a lot more so you'll learn more and have more fun smile

I have AD08s on the rear and RE040's currently on the front

Seems perfectly OK to me, although it is only used for Roads, no Track. AD08s for the front, are not available for S2s, so people usually go for AD07s there.

THIS.

When I was stuck 200 miles from home and in need on a pair of front tyres on a Sunday afternoon I had to take it to some random fitter - watched in horror as they took both front wheels off and the car started to SLOWLY tip backwards off the lift. One of the guys noticed and ran and grabbed the front of the car just before it fell off.

He He... I was only joking when I said Kwik Fit... I wouldn't take an ordinary car there let alone my baby.... All good advice though so thanks...

My father in law used to take his VW caravelle tyres off himself individually and take them in to be changed one at a time. Same issue (very different vehicles !).

I've even turned around at one place where they had cars up on a forecourt on 4 trolley jacks (shudder)...

I might consider Micheldever as they seem to have a good name anyone else heard of them ?

I won't be doing anything until after the car limits course so a bit of time yet...

thanks again tho.

I got mine through Elise Parts and got a local independent tyre place to fit them. They didn't even charge me anything, I think the guy was just glad to have an interesting car to work on for a change.

Carrying four spare tyres in an Elise is a bit of a challenge though. I couldn't use first or second gears. hehe

dont suppose anyone could suggest where I might still be able to get some bridgestone potenzas..? cant find fronts anywhere frown (partly due to needing 175/55R16s and apparently most S2s run 190)

I think the Potenzas are pretty much extinct. Time to bit the bullet and go to Advans.

Ok well the car is back from specialised now... I've had a quick check of the Bridgy's that's on the car and the back I think are little close but there does seem a good amount of tread on the front... should I replace the back's only (would be cheaper) or would it be best to change all four ?

I was going to try and limp along to a carlimits course in march (21st) and change them after but not sure they'll last that long...

thoughts ?

I had a similar predicament but in the end bit the bullet and bought a full set of AD07s. I didn't know the age of the old tyres as they were fitted by the previous owner, but wanted to ensure the car had the grip and balance that an Elise should.

What a difference it made - it killed a lot of understeer (despite the old rears being low and the fronts having lots of tread) and brought about a level of steering feel which was previously absent (I should add mine had 195's on the front before).

I've since had a full geo done and this has made an equally big difference as the tyres, so would strongly recommend this if it's not been done in your ownership. As I see it, what's the point in having such a car if it's famed ride and handling is compromised by inferior/old tyres and poor alignment?

Edit to add I don't know where you're located but Christopher Neil fitted mine for just under £700 all in

Fitting new tyres on the rear will noticeably increase the understeer.

If you're just looking to get the car to a safe roadworthy standard, just buy the rears. If you want to enjoy the car as intended, get all 4 done.

Ok so with my car limits course fast approaching (21st March)...I've been keeping an eye on the tyres.
Fronts are looking fine but the rears are looking a little bit close to their useful life....

Does anyone have any part worn bridgestone Potenza's (rear elise s2)...?
I don't mind paying a bit for them...but I need something I think to tide me over until after the car limits course.. don't want to shell out for new AD07's and scuff 'em up on the course...

Let me know if you have any I can use... no worries if not

run your rears into the ground on your course, i imagine you'll destroy them, then have new ones fitted by a mobile tyre fitter and drive home
