Insurance advice, Elise
Discussion
Usually I'm posting advice to people looking for insurance but on this occation, I'm stumped.
I've found a lovely Lotus Elise and unfortunately I've set my heart on it. I can't find an insurance quote for less than £4400 despite searching a few months back and finding one for £1900
Does anybody have any ideas where else I can look? I've been through all the comparison sites and I've given the Flux a call, all to no avail.

I'm hoping somebody has some knowledge on these cars and insurance as they are a bit different, would it be possible for me insure an early S1 under a classic car policy?

It is possible to insure S1s as a modern classic - ask Matt at Henderson Taylor.
Likewise with http://www.classiclineinsurance.co.uk/.Cotty said:

Likewise with http://www.classiclineinsurance.co.uk/.Trying the classiclineinsurance right now. I'm moving house in ~3weeks so I'm using the new address to get prices, it turns out its a lot cheaper than my current address! Down to £3000 with Admiral now, this is looking more faesable.
I've been insured with http://www.competition-car-insurance.co.uk/ for the last few years.
Have just moved to Admiral though as it was 50% of their price. Might be worth a go as I think they are better for 'higher risk' though.

I was paying over £1,100 when I was 23 (male, London, no points and non-commuting). That was the best I could do at the time and was through Elephant. Now that I'm 29 and no longer living in London it is <£300 with CCI. I did find that adding an older female driver (i.e. my Mum) did make it cheaper by a noticeable chunk.

Have you thought about going through a decent broker and letting them do all the work? I moved to A Plan several years ago. As each of my policies expired they did all the leg work and came up with much better quotes than I could (including the terms, excess amounts, business use), even via those damn Meerkats etc.
My first year in the Esprit V8 with them was very competitive - when it came to the renewal Royal and Sun Alliance had pulled the product (High Nett Worth) but the broker actually persuaded them to run it for another year, just closing it to new entrants - for the same price! The next renewal they moved it and I paid less! This year I've paid a basic £430 for fully comp, Class 1 Business Use, maximum no claims, clean licence, unlimited mileage. NCD protection, legal cover and broker fee took it up to £475. But I am 52....
I now have 3 cars, a motorbike and my house/contents cover through A Plan. Can't praise them enough.
