Usually I'm posting advice to people looking for insurance but on this occation, I'm stumped.

I've found a lovely Lotus Elise and unfortunately I've set my heart on it. I can't find an insurance quote for less than £4400 despite searching a few months back and finding one for £1900 yikes

Does anybody have any ideas where else I can look? I've been through all the comparison sites and I've given the Flux a call, all to no avail.

S2 Elise 111s

I'm hoping somebody has some knowledge on these cars and insurance as they are a bit different, would it be possible for me insure an early S1 under a classic car policy?

It is possible to insure S1s as a modern classic - ask Matt at Henderson Taylor.

I bet the main reason is your age, i found 25 to be the point in which it dropped loads. I was given a decent quote from Matt for a 2005 111S, 29 years old, 2 claims in 2008, 0 points and 0 NCD.

Spoke to Henderson Taylor, unfortunately their underwriters have said a flat no to anybody under 25 on the car. Although the chap I was speaking to was very helpful! I'd be using the car as an everyday car and to commute, which makes insurance even more difficult.

Trying the classiclineinsurance right now. I'm moving house in ~3weeks so I'm using the new address to get prices, it turns out its a lot cheaper than my current address! Down to £3000 with Admiral now, this is looking more faesable.

Let us know how you get on. Classic Line did me £392 but im over 40 and no business use. But I am still a London borough being in Zone 6

PS they insure my 2006 S2 under a modern classic policy. It does not have to be over 10 years old.

I've been insured with http://www.competition-car-insurance.co.uk/ for the last few years.
Have just moved to Admiral though as it was 50% of their price. Might be worth a go as I think they are better for 'higher risk' though.

Try REIS, they have been good for me in the past, not sure about age limits though.

Also, AON used to do a Roadster Policy, I had my S1 with them on that scheme for a while

Think I paid £900 when I was 23 on a S1 Elise 4 and a half years ago. That was with Admiral.

Prices have gone up quite a bit this year for premiums with commuting included through the specialists. Don't know if it applies to the mainstream guys too.

I was paying over £1,100 when I was 23 (male, London, no points and non-commuting). That was the best I could do at the time and was through Elephant. Now that I'm 29 and no longer living in London it is <£300 with CCI. I did find that adding an older female driver (i.e. my Mum) did make it cheaper by a noticeable chunk.

Waiting on a call from classicline at the moment. Losing my momentum with this as I've hit a few brick walls frown

I'm making a note of all the recommended companies and I'll go through them 1 by 1

Thanks guys.

I'm insured with CCI, but it's limited mileage and I've removed commuting from my cover to get a decent quote - I don't need it, and it makes a big difference. And I'm 39.

Have you thought about going through a decent broker and letting them do all the work? I moved to A Plan several years ago. As each of my policies expired they did all the leg work and came up with much better quotes than I could (including the terms, excess amounts, business use), even via those damn Meerkats etc.

My first year in the Esprit V8 with them was very competitive - when it came to the renewal Royal and Sun Alliance had pulled the product (High Nett Worth) but the broker actually persuaded them to run it for another year, just closing it to new entrants - for the same price! The next renewal they moved it and I paid less! This year I've paid a basic £430 for fully comp, Class 1 Business Use, maximum no claims, clean licence, unlimited mileage. NCD protection, legal cover and broker fee took it up to £475. But I am 52....

I now have 3 cars, a motorbike and my house/contents cover through A Plan. Can't praise them enough.
