Would someone be kind enough to measure their Elise S2 for the following:

1. the length from the base of the wheel to the tip of the front spoiler/diffuser
2. height from ground to spoiler/diffuser

this sounds weird but simply i am looking to buy one as an everyday car (i already have a fun weekender) but i need to know if it will make it to my house. there are speed bumps leading up to my house that i cannot avoid.

height is not such an issue, the problem will arise if the front of the car reaches the bump before the front wheel does.

any help would be greatly appreciated

Unless they're particularly large or oddly shaped you shouldn't have a problem. Where I live is infested with the infernal things and I've never bottomed out on one.

I'd agree with Alfa Numeric, never had a problem with speed humps in the Exige and the front is lower than an Elise, so unless they higher than stand (100mm?) I don't think you'll have a problem.

As above, the clearence is fine.

The only issue is if it has a splitter fitted, if it has then you will have an issue!

There are a load around here, and one or two which do cause the front lip to scrape, when driving 'down' off the bump, unless you do them at 0.0001 mph.

700mm from the centre of the front wheels to the numberplate plinth. Minimum front ride height for a standard S2 was 130mm, and the bottom is pretty flat so the front splitter wont be far off that.

Got them in France too! However my worst experience with speed bumps was in Portsmouth. Just have to take them carefully. I've had to have the front number plate re-fixed countless times, but up until now, not caused any other issues. On the positive side, I get loaded onto the lower deck when I take the ferry to the UK because the ramps are just impossible. Means I get off the ferry earlier.

The numberplate tends to extend slightly below the plinth so if it's tight you might catch that. You can always move the plate up slightly (or fit a marginally smaller one), but I find it quite useful because I know that if the numberplate clears something, the more expensive bits of the car are safe.

Attach number plate with velcro amd make sure it sticks down slightly lower than the nose.
As said, offers advanced warning of potential grounding if it catches, but the velscro means it can be stuck back on easily and won't cause any other damage if it gets knocked off.

one of my father's friends had his front number plate on hinges (way back in the day)

the simple reasoning behind it was that, if he was speeding, the wind would push the numberplate back and up allowing more/better airflow to the engine etc...

also came in handy for dodging those speed cameras tongue out

the speed bumps are lockblock and just as high as the surrounding kerbs. however, the TVR manages it when going very slowly. but the wheels are quite far forward compared to some other sporty cars. i.e. my friends noble has to take them diagonally to avoid shaving his front splitter

I fairly regularly scuff my (tigga) splitter on my S2 at the bottom of my drive, which isn't that steep! Probably about 10 degrees. I have to be careful and walking pace not to, but its not a problem unless you like your cars looking pristine
