Has anybody fitted a rear view Micro Mirror to their car (sold by hangar111 in the States I believe)?

Was it worth the change and is there any UK supplier?

Thanks.

I can't answer your question but as an alternative, the VW Golf Mk2 mirror fits (check the Seloc Techwiki for details)

The mk1 Daewoo Matiz mirror fits onto the standard window mount, and you can probably get one free from a scrap yard.

Does anyone know the actual size of the Matiz & Golf mirrors ?
Being 6' 4" the Lotus mirror took up a massive amount of the screen that I actually needed to use, so removed it and went to using the Halfords stick on mirrors, but have given up on those as I'm tired off them falling off.

If both the Matiz & Golf mirrors fit, I'll go for whichever is the narrowest.

Not sure of the dimensions, but here's a picture of the Matiz one vs the standard Lotus monstrosity:

And the Golf one;

Apparently there are actually two different types of Elise mirror though, with different fixing mechanisms, so you need to be careful. Have a read of this and see if you can work out what you need: http://wiki.seloc.org/a/Smaller_Rear_View_Mirror

Ah you probably need to sign up to SELOC to see them.

The Golf mirror looks slightly smaller than the Daewoo one, but it's also much more old-fashioned looking if that matters to you.

Thanks to all responders so far. I think I still like the Micro Mirror so will keep my eyes open for a used one coming up for sale.

For me, its looks to be the Golf option, is the only option and the idea of pulling the stalk out of the existing mirror and then pushing it into the Golf version seems a tad suspect. Dont see how doing that doesnt then make the the mirror weaker and the ball joint less solid.

It might well reduce the friction of the ball joint a bit, but then the mirror is probably half the weight so it would have to weaken it a lot to make it flop around more than the OEM mirror (which, in the case of mine, tends to end up pointing at the floor if I go over a particular nasty bump).

depends how long your torso is, but me of stumpy legs yobbo torso oompa loompa proportions, removed my mirror altogehter as was blocking about 20% of the front view and 40% of the important view. convex door mirrors have got it covered IMO

Ben you describe my situation totally. What Convex mirrors did you get ? I seem to remember a thread many years ago about this and there being full size convex mirrors that were the exact same size as the existing wing mirrors and stuck over the top of them.

Anyone know of these, or something similar ?

I have one.

Agree the quality is good, reassuring considering the price.

Looks much better than the oversize original, forward viz marginally improved but not dramatically. No mirror is definitely better looking forward.

Word of warning though, I cracked my screen trying to take the OE mirror off, cost me a new screen. Did it on a warm sunny day which exacerbates the problem apparently.

The wing mirror option seems to have died a death. The company that used to make them went out of business. So unless anyone knows of an alternative convex mirror that fits, then it looks like its back to the rear view mirror option

I had a micro mirror fitted earlier this year, I definitely recommend it if you can get hold of one. It opens up a lot of space on the windscreen which is especially useful if you have use an in-car camera, the rear view vision isn't impaired either. I got mine from Hanger111 which is the UK equivalent of Sector111......they don't seem to list them on the website any more but I had e-mailed them in the past to be informed when they got more stock in. Expensive but worth it. yes

OK, so the Micro mirror seems an option, but the expensive one. The convex side mirrors seem the cheaper option, but less easy to obtain/install.
What is available is not actually Elise sized, and what was Elise sized no longer seems to be available

Really struggling with what to do here. Does anyone have any other solutions that they have installed or are aware of that work ?

I fitted some convex race mirrors to my MX5. The field of view is excellent - it eliminated the blind spot on that car - and they were only £20 each from my local race and rally shop. On the MX5 the OEM mirrors fell off and these were cheaper and better.

I've been toying with fitting a pair to my Elise.

IIRC the micro-mirror also has no dipping mechanism, which would annoy me no end.
