Hi - I have damaged my pride and joy as in a moment of stupidly I started it in gear in the garage and it flew into my work bench smashing the front end up really badly in the process. As it was in the garage does anyone know where I stand insurance wise ( I am fully comp)? And i have protected no claims..am not sure how this effects my premium going forward...?. And the other question is does anyone know where to buy new clams should I attempt a repair myself?
Thanks.

If fully comp you should be insured. If you have protected ncb then you will see an increase in premium next year but no loss of ncb.

Good luck in getting it sorted.

When looking for insurance i found declaring it kept in a garage over night put my premiums up, it was cheaper to say the car is left on the drive and even cheaper if left on the road. I guess this is why they load premiums as it can be easy to damage a car getting in and out of a garage.

GRP panels can be repaired. If I had serious damage to my clam I'd rivit an aluminium strap across each crack from the front, then when all the parts are held together I'd remove the clam from the car and repair with new GRP from the back (I use woven glass rather than CSM as it's neater). Then all you have to do is refit to the car, drill out the rivits, throw away the straps then fill and paint over the cracks.

I've done this several times (although only to GRP bumpers and wings - I'm careful with my elise) and the results are as good as your filling and painting skills.

You'll be covered if you're fully comp.

I had a walking pace knock in the snow a few years ago and got it fixed through the insurance. Final bill to the insurance company was rather over seven grand (without a hire car) - the expensive bits are the clam itself and the light units if they're damaged (assuming it's an S2, S1 lights are probably much cheaper) plus painting, I suppose. I think my premium got loaded by about 25% for it for the next three years, so it ended up costing me about three hundred quid overall.

If it's an Insurance job, then Westover's would be my choice. May be worth talking to Sportomotive in Salisbury as an alternative.
