Because of the lack of engine space in a Elise as opposed to an Exige the SC model has a smaller supercharger and no intercooler. Is this a big problem on a standard car?
Does anyone know why so few Elise SCs were made?
I adore an Exige S2 but wonder if I could live with a Elise SC?
They may both be impractical but my Caterham takes that to a different level.

I had a wing mounted cooler in my Exige so it's not because of space.

I imagine Lotus wanted to keep a difference between the Elise and Exige.

The OE Intercooler was not great anyway hence so many aftermarket products available.

If you want more than 220 BHP then the Exige is the way to go as plenty of Factory upgrades up to around 260 and other aftermarket upgrades to 320/330 BHP.

A friend has a SC Elise with a nice Exhaust and is very happy with it.

I test drove an Exige PP (240hp) and an Elise SC (220hp) back to back. You could tell the difference but it wasn't huge. The Elise SC was very nice - I could happily live with one.

Is there anything in particular you'd like to know?

I've got an Elise SC and love it. I haven't driven an Exige though so can't comment on the difference in feel.

I can say that despite the lack of intercooler the car doesn't noticeably suffer with loss of power due to heat soak, even on track.

To give you an idea of straight line performance differences you could compare these youtube videos, both at Snetterton:

This is my Elise SC: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=be1b6jA7mfQ

This is an Exige 260 Cup: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oVyNVhc760g

Comparing the speed on the start straight and the main back straight you can see that the Exige is obviously faster, but it's not by a massive amount.

Hi.
I have a SC Elise. I've only driven the NA exige, so not a fair comparison. Obviously my car was noticeably quicker. I have been out in exceptionally cold days, warm days, and basically don't notice much of a difference.
I've been on track also, and again, negligible whether there is any difference in performance.

260 cup in my eyes would be the one to go for, if you don't mind shelling out mid to high 30k. Exige as stated has more tuning opportunities, so really depends on your plans.
We all wanna go faster, I am the worlds worst for craving more power, but the SC Elise is plenty quick on the roads and on track, if not respected it can get you into a huge pile of trouble. I bought my car more for how it looks, roof of and extras that came with it.
If a cup 260 had been by its side at a reasonable price, that's what I would have opted for. If you purchase one, you honestly won't be dissapointed. I have high standards with cars, and the Elise ticks the box for me.

Not sure why so little were made, but again can only be a good thing long term.

I also have an Elise SC and love it. No problems. So easy to drive as there is a smooth progressive power delivery thru the range. Some people prefer a more top end cam kick re the 111R but the SC you can piddle around town in virtually any gear or put it thru its paces on the open road. Dont think you would be disappointed....plus you can see out the back window unlike the Exige..which is useful on the road.
