Hello Ladies and Gents,my first post here.I shall be replacing my exhaust with a milltek, but i can not see how the exhaust heat shield is unbolted as the offending bolts are sandwiched between the top of the shield and the underside of the boot floor!I can not see another means of attaching the supplied tail pipe plate without removing the said shield drilling the old plate off then riviting the new one in place or am i missing something?

Your advise please will be very helpfull.

Regards
John

I don't think you need to remove the whole heatshield to remove the black cover by the tailpipes. A dremmel on the pop rivets should do the job.

Thanks for the reply starlight and a good idea but i think i`ll still need to remove the shield to get all the rivets back in.

John,
With the silencer out of the way, there is plenty of room to pop rivet the plate back in from the back.
Also, with the Milltek, the tailpipes are of a larger diameter and I don't think you will need to refit the black plate back on as it probably won't fit anyway unless you make the exhaust cutouts larger.

Regards
Phil

Hello Phil, thanks for your input and suggestions,i think the best thing is to get the car in the air and start chopping off the old rotting exhaust fittings and if i`m lucky fit the new tail pipes with or without the tail pipe plate???

Best regards
John

Good luck with the u pipe to centre section flange nuts! Just changed my back box to a Larini yesterday - managed to undo one nut and had to grind off the other two with a dremmel!! Now fitted with marine grade stainless steel nuts and bolts and copious amounts of copper ease. I also took the opportunity to remove said black exhaust plate, dremmel long off the pop rivets, and resprayed it, so it is definitely doable with the old back box off :-)

Have fun!

Phil

Hi John

If it didn't come with the exhaust, Milltek should be able to supply you with the black tail-trim plate as they call it, specially for the Europa system. See below the response I got from Milltek when I was researching replacement exhausts for my Europa S (haven't got it yet but I'm going for a Larini as they have told me it a straight replacement plus the sound of the VX220 Turbos with Larini's on You Tube convinced me!).

"Hi Mark

No you don’t need to cut the heatshield. There’s a ‘tail-trim’ plate that’s riveted to the OE heatshield. You remove this plate and replace it with a Milltek ‘tail-trim’ plate which is supplied with the Milltek exhaust system.

Kind regards,

I hope this helps.
