Starting to get a little frustrated with dealers apparently buying a lot of the private adverts for stock and then re-listing them with roughly a 2k premium especially models such as the 111s.

Simply question is are they really that short of used cars? Or is something else happening in the Lotus market?

Why get frustrated? Sellers are happy as they have sold a car.

Just sold mine (111R) to a dealer in Germany. Only one private buyer enquiry in past month.

Well I have arranged to view to cars now (that evening) on the first day of the advert Only to get a phone call a couple of hours later that it's been sold. I then see the same car listed a couple of days later by a dealer.

Also nearly all of the recent adverts seem to be by the dealer network. I just wonder where all the private sellers adverts have gone?

I think dealers have been short of stock as I have had a couple of letters from my dealer, before I was selling my car saying they were keen to buy good examples.

As a seller, if you get a good price off a dealer it can be a more attractive and pain-free sale than selling to a private person I suppose.

I didn't think my car was over priced but had very little interest:

Indeed if your looking for a low miles mint s1 like i was. If you work it's virtually impossible so I gave up and paid the 2k in the end. Smarter would be for seller and buyer to gain 1k each and cut out the middle man but I tried a wanted add that was basically swamped by the dealers. Your stuffed unless you buy unseen.

I am after a S2 111s preferably in ardent red, but I am finding the same thing. I wonder if its because the 1.6 are not selling and therefore very few cars are being traded in?

Sorry to spoil your illusions but I believe its not 'competitively priced' for a private sale. Love the car and the colour, it looks gorgeous. However, despite the condition and well documented service records I feel without air con or h-top 16200 for a 2005 car expensive. I'm no expert but would have thought of a starting price nearer to 15200 more realistic

To be honest I was surprised by the asking prices of 111Rs - I tried selling last year and I am sure then I was pricing it a little cheaper than this year, based on other ads. I think when I listed mine a month ago it was around the third cheapest at the time.

It's academic now as it was sold at the weekend to the dealer, as mentioned above.

I have been looking for an S2 Exige for some time now. I just missed one yesterday as I had hoped the deal would fall through but the owner sold a 2007 NA car to a dealer in Newcastle for 17,500 (which was very reasonable and £1500 less than he had asked) , the same dealer who knows I am after a similar car now a day later and having spent a tank of fuel on the car wants £23,000 but would be so generous to knock a grand off that! Now the dealer is in business to make money but that is outrageous.

I think some of the dealers are short of stock and the prices of the new cars can be too high for those people looking a first Lotus.

When I was selling my low mileage S2 Exige last year I had no end of time wasters and people not turning up! I sold it to a guy from Germany in the end and he was very happy.

The S2 111S is a very good car and well worth waiting for to buy a good one. I had two and would have another one if funds were available

A friend was trying to buy a used mk2 Elise from a specialist. Viewed/tested the car yesterday, made an offer today, dealer calls back to say he has sold it to a dealer in Germany from under him....Grrrrrr frown

I may be nuts but I just flew to Milan to buy a uk registered Exige 2S. Drive back to UK tomorrow, MOT and service booked at Lipscomb. DVLA and hopefully Bob's your Auntie. Autobahns got to be a good start! At least I am not buying a car from Newcastle advertised as FSH that missed a service and 6000 miles!

Maybe nuts. As always depends on condition, price etc etc etc. Have fun on the way back. Shame about the autoroutes. On the continent it'll get attention everywhere you go. Enjoy the buzz.
