111R Ball joints ?

So the good news is that I have managed to source some new tyres since an unrepairable puncture happened
The bad news, is that I now have a knocking noise coming from the rear of the car under breaking. Nothing obvious when not breaking and there might be a slight knock when going round corners.

So being the uneducated Lotus owner I am, I believe this indicates that one of the ball joints is going. Is this Right ?
If it is the ball joint(s), how much do they cost and how much should I expect to pay to get them fitted ?
Couldnt have come at a worse time really as in the process of buying a new house, so trying to keep the costs down. And before anyone suggests it, no am not capable of doing this myself, if that is an option.

I may be wrong, but I think the S2's can suffer from knocking from the toe links as the exhaust heats up it up. I seem to remember reading that re-greasing it can help, it's been posted about on SELOC in the past.

This is happening from the 1st moment I start the car, so nothing is even mildly warm, yet the knocking is there
Oh well its into the garage Thursday, so will find out then.

Does anyone have ideas on cost, assuming it is the ball joints ?

I got a pair of uprated rear toe links fitted with full geo for £300 a few months ago. Transformed the car as the old ones were knackered.

I was quoted £60+ VAT for balljoints on mine.

If it's the toe links making a knocking noise, they're more expensive.

The heatshield on mine came loose and would knock on the exhaust when driving along - took 2 years of taking things off before I finally tracked that down!!

Changed all the ball joints en route!
