Current best available winter tyre for S1?

What are the best top 3 options in currently available winter/all year tyres that would fit an Elise S1?

Elise being such alight car, you really need pucka winters if you plan on playing when it's really cold/snowy.

Toyo R1R.
Not suited for very cold/snow/ice but will you really use the car in those conditions?
Down side is wear rate.

Yoko AD08s are also very good.

One man's winter tyre is another man's track tyre.

Personally I used Nokian WR-G2 tyres in the winter, in 185/55 and 205/50 sizes. Superb traction in the snow, even when the bottom of the car was starting to toboggan. I've also used them on track when ambient was close to freezing. The AD08s on my track wheels were lethal in comparison in similar track conditions.

Following with interest as I'm about to change my rears on a 2006R. (Imagine that the tyre issues remain the same whatever the model) Looking at Bridgestone Potenzas, (RE050A1), Yokohama Advan, Michelin Sport and Pirellis which all seem to be rated as good summer tyres and yet s..t in the winter. As my car is used all year round, I'm more than concerned by comments concerning grip at temperatures approaching freezing. OK, I'll be fine when the suns out, all the tyres seemingly up to the job, but the cold weather makes up to 33% of my driving time and yet the tyres don't seem to be up to it. I'm not a tracker (sad but true) and so road use is critical selection criteria.

I've used winter tyres on other cars, and I'm a big fan.

But my Elise is on Toyo T1Rs and I use it for commuting all year, including when there are a few inches of snow on the road. Winter tyres would be better, but I'm still mobile and don't get stuck. I don't have any hills to drive up though.

If the snow is particulary bad, or if it looks like it might be fun, I have an old MX5 with a locked diff on snow tyres. It's a lot more fun to drive in snow than the Elise, not least because it's worth nothing (and has more steering lock for sliding around with).
