Could anyone recommend an upgrade for the standard speakers? Is it possible to increase the size of the speakers? The search function does not appear to be working again so appologies if I'm covering old ground!

I don't use the stereo very often but when I do the sound quality is appalling. I'm aware that it's never going to sound like the Bose in my other car but I enjoy my music and with a trip into Europe looming I would like to get speakers that actually work at higher volumes. Thanks.

Just had a proper read through that thread and I've come across the upgrade in the US before using 'Jim Clayton' rings but have no way of contacting him it would seem. Does anybody know any other way the front speakers can be increased to 5.25?

Still got the Blaupunkt DAB54 fitted? If so then that's the cause, it has no bass at all. I replaced mine with a £80 Pioneer unit that plays MP3s (This was 5.5 years ago) and instantly there was bass. The speakers themselves aren't all that bad.

Mine came with a Pioneer MVH8200bt so I don't have a point of reference against oem Elise smile
All I know is it sounds about a million times better than the oem crapola in my s2000...

Sorry for the threadbump

Considering doing the same, have what I think is the OEM radio and am frustrated by the poor usability and awful music quality (and lack of AUX/USB input)

Considering something like this:

Assume that it'll be plug and play (whilst hopefully sorting out the poor sound issues (I acknowledge it'll likely be st as I only have 2 speakers but even then...)

I replaced the headunit with this:

https://www.caraudiocentre.co.uk/product_m-pioneer...

And all four speakers with some appropriately sized Alpine speakers front and rear.

It immediatly sounded a lot better - and importantly quite a bit louder (given how noisey it can get in the cockpit) than the stock setup.

I then decided to get an amp as well - which in hindsight was a bit of a waste of time, since an Elise will never be hi-fi and it probably weighs about 4kg or something. Quite a pain to install too, under the dash in the passenger footwell. But speakers and new headunit really quite an improvement for not much effort.
