Europa (aka VX220 coupe)
Discussion
Hello,
I am wondering about Europas.
there are never any for sale. autotrader says they have the most for sale which is a lie because there are 2 on there! and half a dozen or so on here.
Budget ideally £16k (2005MCS and about £10k). is this realistic. i periodically have been looking and there always seem to be a couple at this price and a few around £22k - just like at the moment.
I prefer the detailing on the pre-makeover version.
I love the look of the blue one in our classifieds that with a dealer history and from a dealer and not necessarily all the go faseter bits would be vikkid! I'd like some compomotive wheels if i got one i think!
so:
a) is budget realistic
b) where else can i try and find one (none of the 'proper' lotus dealers seem to have any). it's well annoying because i live nr MK so have two dealers on my doorstep when most of the country doesn;t have one at all! but they don;t have one. neither does stratstone leicester..
ps i think i just had an accident seeing this!:

does Ben L100NYY still work there?

Personally I think 16-17k is about right - some on here will try and tell you they're worth up to 25k but I would take that with a pinch of salt. I am wondering about Europas.

I think you may get a few bites with your title it's interesting 2 similar although not identical cars built by Lotus on the same production line, one commands a significant premium over the other.

Recent Europa prices have depended on if someone is desperate to sell or not. The odd car has recently appeared at £17k but I don't know how much longer that will be the case. Get those while you can!
The more expensive cars are where the prices are heading. If people are in no rush to sell, or not fussed one way or another then they will ask that price and in some cases get it or very close. These cars are very rare and the few that still remain in the UK are now also being taken abroad as in some countries in LHD they can sell for another £10k more.
There are very few cars at around £20k that make people take a second look, will only appreciate in value due to the rarity yet do not have any of the high running costs or known potential problems of anything else remotely exotic. Even if you buy at what seems a high price now you could drive it for 3 years and get your money back, maybe make a bit or at worse lose far less in depreciation over anything else.
You can argue that the VX220 is much better value right now, the Exige S more focused, Evora more refined but the Europa is the one that is super rare and most likely return the best residial. Its a much better car than people initailly thought and has great modding potential if you choose that route. I say if anything good appears at £17k people should be snapping them up as realisticaly, even the higher priced cars in the few years you would own them still would represent good value due to their residuals.
Yep im very biased, I have listed mine for sale as I its now rarely in use (kids, 2 other vehicles, don't like to leave in car parks etc). I fortunately dont need the cash for anything and its not losing any value so I'm happy to keep it a few more years for the odd day out and still get the price I'm asking now or potentially more. If someone wants to buy it now somewhere close to my asking price then the car gets to be enjoyed by someone else right away. I think a few of the non dealer private sellers who have sold higher prices recently have been under similar circumstances.

haha....£27k in my dreams. Trouble is for a seriously quick car that I can use day to day I am going to have trouble beating my Europa for sub £30k. A Europa with a bit of tuning seriously is good fun (even compared with mad 7s, V8 Esprit, Honda engine Elises and Evora S).
The reason why the prices are holding well is once you have one you are in no rush to sell it on.

Only just moved from there... Was in the same boat as you last year and got a Black Europa S from Stratstones in Stourbridge. Very happy with it too! Good luck with your search. Re Junks Europa, I would not be put off by the mileage , as the full service history and condition/spec of this car speak volumes. If I was looking now, I'd of bitten his hand off!
