Greetings.

Been a Porsche man for the last 6 years, but now tempted back to Lotus ownership (had a S1 Elise).

Love the S2 Exige. Not too fussed if not an S. But would like it to be original and prefer Toyota engine (am I being unreasonable not trusting the K-series??)

What will £20K get me these days?

Many thanks in advance for your feedback.

Easily N/A Exige S2 territory at that price (from 18/19k upwards), and a couple of early supercharged variants. Yes, perhaps that stance on the K-series is a bit unfair, but makes no difference to the S2 Exige anyway, as they are all Toyota engine cars, I believe. The S1, of course, was the VHPD K-Series.

Although mine is supercharged, I always was a bit envious of the wide colour palette the N/A cars seemed to come in. Best of luck!

A lucky chap got my 260 spec (factory upgraded from original 240) with high miles (50k) last august for not much over 20.

Fortunately you probably can't afford a K-Series powered Exige for £20k wink

As Arun said only the S1 Exige didn't have a Toyota engine and they are holding strong money compared to S2.

There's loads of nice S2 for that budget. They start from £16k. I've been looking biggrin

If I was doing it all again I would have gone for an S1 Exige, I'd have had a more "race car" experience and probably be £10K up as well!

As for S2's, £20K will buy a very nice NA car or an older S. However, most cars will be modded in some way, thats all part of the ownership.

I wasn't trying to imply an S2 is inferior to an S1 Exige. Just struck me as ironic the OP was so keen to avoid a K-Series.

Both fantastic cars. Personally I don't think the S1 is worth the money (I am ignoring the strong residual/'investment' angle of course).

fk me I want another Lotus!!

Good man. Look forward to catching up, dude.

The S2 N/A Exige will be no faster than a S160 up to 120mph, though.

Unfortunately I'm only window shopping currently! Can't afford to get myself back in a Lotus right now, much as I want to frown

That is a fookin bargain considering that spec.

When I was looking I found early (2004/2005) N/A's were going for £16.5 - £19k depending on colour and miles.

Early (2006) supercharged cars were starting around £22k. Landscape doesn't seem all that different now (and hasn't for about 2 years to be fair). The odd bargain crops up, or cheaper car usually due to the colour more than any other factor. The lairy colours attract a premium and sell a lot quicker compared to the less loved colours.

Many thanks for all your replies.

I feel a little stupid not realising the Exige S2's all had the Toyota engine. I assumed they were like the S2 Elise where early models came with the k-series....

Not wishing to offend the Rover engine, it's just my original S1 had two head gasket failures which had been covered under warranty. I won't have the luxury of a Lotus warranty with this purchase.

I think a NA S2 Exige will be fine for my needs. Anything in particular I should be looking for when inspecting said beast?

Best regards

I am selling mine if you are interested. Lots of extras but it just doesn't get used as I work from home. Not been abused on track either apart from a few novice laps of Knockhill in 2005!!!

Hello Janner,

I tried to PM you, but couldn't!

As your car is a 2004MY, am I correct in thinking the Exige S came out later? Did you or the previous owner have the supercharger fitted post purchase? I could be completely wrong - I have only just started looking into the Exige after 6 years of Porsche "98 this and 99 that" knowledge!!

Best regards,

Frank

Hi,
Yes the supercharged version came out later, I bought this new in 2004. The supercharger was fitted and later the chargecooler, along with lots of other bits along the way. All work was carried out by Essex Autosport, hence them selling the car for me. If you have any other questions you can mail me at terrypurse@hotmail.co.uk or pm me, I had this switched off, oops

Thanks

Ditto. Been looking at Exiges with real interest lately and if I can get my career off to a decent start will hopefully next year be in a position where I can make it feasible!
