Hi,
forgive my lack of knowledge but I used the search function and cannot find a thread on having an Exige topless.
I am guessing that with the need for the air scoop that an Exige needs to be driven with the hardtop in place, am I right?
Is there another scoop that can be used to aid air to the engine if roof is off?
Is a softop conversion possible for touring?
Maybe I need to settle for an Elise?
thanks for your patience.

I use my softop when the weather's good.

I was told it's better to put the lid back on for track work however so that the scoop can do its job biggrin

On early S2 Exiges N/A 2004-2006)that are not supercharged the scoop is just for show. Supercharged cars use the scoop but can still be driven topless. It's an easy modification to do, a few minutes with a Dremel and a couple of rubber fixings at the rear is all they need. Front slots are already there once you remove the roof.Softtops are available second hand from around £300 upwards.

Probably not for show, if anything its for cooling, the same applies to the Europa its has a air induction at roof level you feel the engine bay window it is hot when stationary as soon as you move off it cools so personally I would not be removing the roof on any exige.

Erm, nope. Next time you see one have a close look at the scoop. On the NA cars, behind the mesh is............fibreglass, no hole at all it is nothing other than a styling feature. They can be opened up but the cooling it'd offer the engine would be utterly minimal - think about it the 111R has the same engine and doesn't need the scoop.

On the supercharged cars it of course feeds the intercooler but if you remove the roof there is still a hole there for air to get in and the only issue is going to be one of heat soak of the intercooler lessening supercharger performance but to really feel that it'd need to be a fairly warm day and you'd have to be battering it.

I think someone somewhere did some tests and removing the roof made fk all difference.

Well that shows what I know about Exiges but the Europa has that clever roof ducting that draws air in to the bay down and out the rear it is very effective, better get my coat and leave the Exige forum ;-)

smile the one on the Europa is lovely and subtle, one of the nicest styling features on the car. Interesting that you note it makes that difference you can feel on the window. I presume it's there as the turbo probably heats it up a lot (more I'd have thought than the blowers on the Exiges) and with the coupe profile and it not being as open to the elements as on the VX220 that extra shot of air is really useful.

Yes the rear window does seal it off so I suspect that is the reason, if you get to try one just place a hand on the window when stationary then once you move off it soon cools down its very effective

The N/A/ car is faster without the scoop, and the wing for that matter, because it reduces drag...obvious really.....was told by senior engineer at Lotus.
