Ok so the lotus elise may need some new boots, looking at the toyo t1r for good price, anyone running these ?also thinking of going 185 fronts,If someone wants to recommend any others tyres that fit apart from ad07's or ad08's .

I use Toyo T1R tyres on my Exige.
Great for the road.
Poo for the track.

Regarding road use - good wheel feedback, they ride well, decent mileage & not expensive, plus they work great in the wet.

cheers, i think im leaning more towards the t1rs,all road work and funds are a little tight at the moment, also i can fit 185 instead of the 175 standard at the front ,i have heard it helps dial some understeer out.

They are fine as a road tyre but you will notice that they feel a bit vague for about 500mls or until well scrubbed-in. The tread blocks are quite high so go easy to start off with.

I've run them, with 195's on the front.

As you say, removes the understeer.

I run T1Rs on my Exige. They're a decent compromise for mostly road use. I've done a few track days with them now and they're a bit squidgy but for an amateur like me they're fine. If it's mainly road use you have in mind and you don't drive everywhere at a million miles an hour they'll be great.

Swapped from 048's to T1r's last year, About to fit new rears I just bought from Camskill, 225-45-r 17, £84.95 + vat each, £6 delivery.
Smoother ride on the T1r's, not good for track though.

T1R's on track = lots of controllable oversteer in the right hands biggrin

How did you find moving from semi slicks to T1Rs?

I'll be making the same move in a couple of months and I hope I'm not too disappointed (purely road use).

Indeed - but they wear somewhat rather quickly as they operate beyond their design.

It's a much better ride on the road, I was getting through 3 sets of 48's rears in under 12 months on the road, I love the 'punch in the face' look the 48's give but I can't cope with the cost of changing them so often, the T1r's have lasted me a year, and about 8k miles.
As already said, go easy at first with the T1r's as they are spongy due to the high track walls, yet they are more forgiving if you fkup than the 48's.
I think you'll be please you made the swap.

Also worth having a look at Falken ZE-912's

I used to run Khumo KU31's on my Exige until they became impossible to find and had these suggested on SELOC - best thing I ever did as compared to the Khumo's they are much better.

Clearly they wont have the dry grip of 048's but you wont miss it driving within the legal limits on the road and are superb in the wet.

Agreed, however it's a simple matter of adjusting driving style around them.

They're not a bad budget tyre but they don't last long when you do this regularly smile

I run R1Rs on my Elise now and I think they are a great road tyre (even for water, etc) - and they have been great for me on track as well (though I am by no means an expert on either).

They are a slightly softer compound than the T1Rs (so may not last as long) but I have been told offer as good road performance and much better track...
