Which would you get ?

im tempted by the idea of getting a no frills, low power basic elise again .. something that I can cane the liviing daylights out of so low power is good

the new club racer appeals as it looks quite good and has all the latest mod cons

but then an s2 111s is at least 10 grand cheaper and arguably just as much fun ?

but then i have a soft spot for an MY2008 exige with the revised interior or the last models with the big rear wing

but then at low 30's a used evora looks like a good buy too, not as much out and out fun perhaps but I can do some long distance in it as well (something which i seem to do a fair bit of these days)

Would it be your only car?

If its just a weekend car, I'd say being able to take the roof off would be a big factor in what I would personally choose.

If it were me, I would go for a tidy 111S and spend a little on a nice set of lumpy cams etc to add to the occasion.

yes, 111s is saving lots of money
i know the engine (had an S1 111s) and like it
only problem is the front of the S2 is a bit ugly to me .. never got on with it too well

ETA: (its a 4th car so no probs there .... roof down would be great although traditionally i dont like the soft top thing)

I would argue that the Evora is more fun, certainly better steering and far more driftable.

ive had an exige n/a and an evora. depends on ur age and back to a certain extent!! Also id argue depends on what part of the country you live in. For me Evoras seem good value for money currently. Low 30s gets you a 2009-2010 evora which is the same money youd pay for an exige of the same age. I love my Evora:-) all the fun of the exige with none of the hassle:-)

yeah, i love the whole long wheelbase thing

a cheap elise is something quite carefree though and the lightweight low to the ground thing is always a lot of fun

As much as I'd like to say 'go for an MY2008 Exige S with the revised interior' simply because I have one, I can't help feeling the best choice out of all that for pure bang for your buck is the S2 111S. More than enough Lotus for most people.

I'm just stubborn and love the Exige, especially as I like my track use!

From a pure driving point of view, is there much in it between the 111S and a newer 111R? I appreciate the higher cam change in the R, but wouldn't the extra power make itself felt? Would I be right in thinking the R is more desirable?

Tough choice really, given the price differences.

I've owned an NA S2 Exige, for about 6 months, and now onto an NA evora.

For me, the Evora is better in every way. The only thing it loses out on is the ability to take the roof off, but then the Exige is a pain aswell.

As for the Elise, I think that would be my choice as a 4th car, but I'd want something more powerful, so would probably get a used SC one

The 111R is all about the top-end, the 111S has a more linear power delivery. It comes down to personal preference really.

Drove a standard 111R and wasn't a huge fan of it, it's hard work to keep it on the second cam on the road and felt like it was goading me to go faster than I wanted to or get bogged down on the low lift cam., I've seen some dyno charts of cars worked on by Essex Autosport (intake, exhaust, ECU flash, etc) which look to solve this though.

Huh?.......I thought you were about to purchase an F430, CS, Scuderia........ With a 993 C2, when would you get to drive the Elise/Exige?

F430 still makes sense....cheap compared to a 458, should keep residuals perky!
430 makes bags of sense but i sadly spunked half the savings on some other toys frown

Ive loved the evoras ive driven but never thought they give you the same tiny featherwight feel if an elise which is surely the heart of its appeal ?

There is a club racer version of the base 2010 S2 1.8 toyota elise, they didn't seem to get any press when they were released or on sale which seemed a bit odd! Had a nosy at a few in a dealers at the time, it looks just like the current 1.6 version but with the old S2 front end.

Yes that front end is a bit of a sticking point

As it will be a 4th car, and having read your posts in the past, I'd suggest a 1.8 CR. The 1.8 has more torque than the 1.6 and having driven both, the earlier Yota car is better IMHO. For proper back to basics I'd get an S1 though, especially as a 4th car.

If you're keeping the 993, I don't see what an Evora would really offer over and above that. By this ai mean that it's a another 2+2, whereas the Elise is perhaps a more delicate proposition.

The lack of outright power will also require you to drive it properly to extract the best out of it.

thanks, what is the 1.8 cr ? is that the s2 cr ?

evora is totally different to my 993 which is a bit of a unruly wild animal

wouldnt want to do long distance in my 993 or too much country road stuff either

s1 is appealing if i could find a mint 111s but its impossible

i do like the idea of having no power

had a walk round B&C the other day in pasisng .... the dark evoras with teh S rims looked good, the blue S3 CR was so so .. the white one better. The best looking elise was actually a white S3 supercharged IMO.

Isn't the CR the "Club Racer", the 1.6 with the roof deleted and another 19kg or lost in a lighter battery and other odds and ends?

They made a 1.8 club racer (old front end) and they did the CR (stands for club racer) in the new front end with a 1.6.

Come to think of it, I suppose a 993 with an RS set up is a wilder proposal than an Evorasmile

Must have passed me by. I knew about the old Elise S, which was the 134bhp 1.8 1ZZ-FE Toyota lump (sold alongside the Elise R with the 189bhp 2ZZ-GE) but I didn't know they'd ever badged it CR or Club Racer, I thought that was new for the 1.6.

Club Racer title has been around for quite a while - there was an Exige as well:

Seems like they never really publicised it. There was a yellow one for sale recently and it had the same seats as the 1.6 CR.
