I have recently got a SATNAV, but plugging it in to the AUX socket on the rear baulkhead is a pain, with the wires trailing over the hand brake and gear stick. Have thought about extending the power lead and running it around pax seat, but still not ideal. I have noticed a blanking cover just in front of the gear stick (don't know it's intended purpose). Has anybody found an AUX power socket that fits this recess without much modification? Would seem ideal, just extend power cables under tunnel, and jobs a good 'un.

Pretty sure this is the location for a button on the Elise a friend has, possibly TC? If it looks like it'll fit, there's no harm trying to rig something up...

I put an aux socket in the blank in front of the gearstick on the 2-11.
It just ran to the battery behind the seats though...

Connector was like this one:

Needed a little bit of modification to fit but would still be covered by blanking plug it you wanted to return to standard.

I'm thinking of hard wiring my sat nav cable behind the dash and tieing it up out of the way. I will probably leave just enough cable showing to reach where I normally put the nav unit.
I reckon you could splice in to the radio switched 12V supply without any major hassles. I only use the nav unit with the Lotus and if I decide I need to use it elsewhere I can buy a second cable for it.

Be careful doing this, most satnav units are 5 volts, there is usually a regulator board in the 12 volt aux plug.

Cheers, I'll check. I figured if there were any gubbins in the connector I could heat shrink them all up and keep it complete but tidied away.
