Hi guys this is not a sale ad its just a question, all u pistonheaders know the market inside and out.heres the question would i be barking way up the wrong tree to try to straight swap my boxster 986 2.5 99 plate in mint condition 34000 miles all history excellent runner ect for a lotus elise s2? hopfully with a toyota engine ? i bought the boxster over the lotus last time thinking i would use it everyday so would find the extra refinement like ac heated leather seats stereo, space and day to day usability handy but im no finding that i only use it to take trips out on sunday on sunny evenings because since buying the boxster i have since come accross a beat up old van i use for most duties so im kinda wondering if i should have gone for the lotus s2 since i dont really need the refinments i just want a raw driving experience and its not going to be driven everyday so its not like i have to worry about fitting the shopping in. so what do u think as it stands i have a really great example ov a boxster which i would like to swap for a nice lotus s2, my car needs no wrk to it its ready to go ? there both sports cars the porche might be easer to live with on a day to day basis and perhaps alot better a choice if i was using it everday but since i have some amazing roads up here in northumberland maybe a lotus s2 for pure leisure might be the better bet ???? im getting married next year so cant really splash the cash hence why im wondering if thers a chance i could straight swap i realise the lotus might have afew more miles on but im just after a straight bottom ov the rung s2 ? so after all that dose anyone think this would be possible ????

Frankly, not a chance though if someone does off you a swap, jump at it.

I bought my Boxster in preference to an early S2 Elise back in 2010; if anything the Elise would be worth a little more now than then, whereas my Boxster has definitely depreciated. Hasn't broken down though, unlike my previous Elise did at only 2 year old...

So straight swap from a Boxster that's worth 6-7k to a 111R which you'll find leggy example from about 13k upwards. Not a hope in hell of a straight swap I'd have thought.

So its a total non starter frown ? i have seen the odd s2 in autotrader for around 9000 ish ? we all know that dealers like to keep there stock moving around to keep there forcourts fresh, and someone may have bought an elise then relised that its to impratical and dose not want to take the dealer hit on selling in this way somne could get a very nice super low millage boxster which might be a better bet to use day to day?

It's not the Toyota cars selling at £9k though.

There are 120bhp Rover S2s that pop up around that figure now and again, more at £10k.

Not sure what your Boxster is worth though, I'd guess less than that.

I think you'll really struggle.

You're v.unlikely to find a straight S2 below £9k, and you can buy 2.7 or 3.2 Boxsters for £8k as well - I'd have thought yours would be worth somewhere in the £6500 range. Maybe less, maybe more, I don't know the Boxster market that well enough - but the values are quite a way apart as far as I can tell.

For the price of your boxster you will get a series 1 , and it will be a dog of a series 1 .

Most decent series 1 go for 9-10k
Most decent (k series)series 2 go for 10-11k

Ive seen many for under 10k but most will need work doing to them , such as paint work , clam repairs , fixing leaks , replace the crappy interior ! .

Sell your porsche private , and save some cash for a GOOD s2 elise.

yes Generally, you wont get any Elise for less than about 10k. You might be able to buy one for less than that, but you'll usually spend at least the difference on it in the first year. For an early S2 make that 11k.

Realistically, you'll need at least 5-6k to upgrade from a 2.5 986 to a Toyota powered Elise, maybe closer to 8k. Probably at least 3k to upgrade to any S2.

I wish you good luck as it looks very tidy but at £2k above the norm for a 2.5 model, even with the low miles, I think you may need to haggle hard
