Does anyone have a harness mounted using a Tillett B5 seat and Tillett EB1 mounting bracket?

I have a Schroth LOTUS II-FE http://www.msar-safety.com/detail.asp?p=111&o=... so can't use eye bolts with a spreader plate.

Wondering if anyone else had a successful way of mounting the harness?

Thanks
Chris

Which bit of the harness? I had Tillets in mine, and the shoulder straps were just wrapped around a harness bar.

I mounted mine onto the seat brackets. That's possibly not ideal, but I seem to remember that the original lap strap was mounted onto the runners too. I mounted mine that way because it was going to prove difficult space wise to fabricate a bracket just to mount the lap straps on to.

I sold the Elise a while back so I can't check, but with the B5's in there wasn't a lot of space either side once they were in, so using the seat bracket seemed like the easiest way to go.

The lap strap of the 3 point belt is bolted to the seat (in a VX220 anyway).

Were you using the EB1 bracket (fixed directly to the floor)? My thoughts were to mount the lap straps through the steel upright part of the bracket. Just unsure of what to use in terms of bolts, stepped spacers etc. if bolting though the uprights of the seat bracket (i have road legal harnesses so am doing away with the 3 point seat belt).

Thanks
Chris

I honestly can't remember which brackets I used. I had a fair selection of them at one time, as I used MOG seats before I bought the Tillets. The passenger side was fixed directly to the floor. The driver's side I used Tillett brackets that combined with a part of the original seat runner, so you could move the seat backwards and forwards. I'm pretty sure that the runners were threaded to take the lap strap mounting bolts, and it was just a question of sorting out some spacers and wave washers to get the routing looking right. I might have knocked the spacers up on the lathe, I can't remember. I do remember that the belt mounting bolts use a funny thread size though........

Thanks for the replys.

I have a different bracket to you as my brackets bolts directly to the floor and is fixed.

I think your bracket was double sheared to allow fitment of harness and or seat belt, whereas mine doesn't have any mounting points

You're right, the bolt is 7/16th.

I'm going to have to dig a bit harder to find a solution.

Thanks for your help.

Riff raff, do you have any pictures of the mog seat in your Elise? Is it suitable for tall drivers? Thanks.

I've just had a look, and sorry, I don't.

It might be worth explaining why I tried the MOG's and the changed to Tilletts though.

The MOG seat is a really well made quality piece of kit, but has a number of drawbacks in the Elise (assuming you are going to use the car on the road as well as the track).

First off, the MOG has very deep sides. This is great on track, but it means that you can't use anything other than a full harness, you can't really get at the handbrake with the seats in, and it makes it a real pain in the bum to get in and out of the car - at least it does in a S1. You not only have to get over the sill, but you have to get over the side of the MOG too. For the driver this is just about do-able because you can lever yourself around using the wheel, but it makes life really tricky for the passenger if you fit a matching seat on that side.

I found that the Tilletts gave me not much less support - because they are heavily contorted around your kidneys, (but your thighs can move around a bit more), being lower at the sides meant that problems I referred to above weren't problems any more.

Whether the MOG's would suit a taller driver I can't really say. I always thought the Elise was a bit short on legroom for me. I'm not that tall - 5'11" - but I had the seats right back most of the time. Another issue I had with the MOG is related to that. I didn't fabricate a bracket that would allow the driver's seat to slide, so it was fixed. The MOG has a fair bit of rake built into it as standard, ad I found I couldn't really get the seat far enough back for me to get the front bit high enough to give me the support under the thighs that I wanted - if that makes any sense. With the seat as far back as I could get it, the front part wasn't high enough for me. To get the front high enough, the seat had to be moved forward - effectively tilting the seat back, and that put me too close to the pedals.

The solution would have been to move the throttle pedal forward, but at that point things were getting complicated, so I flogged the MOG's and bought the Tilletts!

Thanks for your reply. To be honest I don't mind about not reaching the handbrake easily, I want to make it as driver focused as I can. Passenger might not thank me when they get elbowed in the face tho! The higher sidewall of the seat might be an issue, I already struggle getting my lanky frame in and out of the car.

It was actually the rake of the seat that appealed. What I want to achieve is the lowest seating position I possibly can. When I took th current seat out (corbeau lx) and just sat on the floor this was perfect, which got me wondering about the resin beanbag kits you can buy. Seen them in demon Tweeks.

The other option Is to have the seat quite far forward and lean it as far back as I can. Unfortunately this means my knees are right up next to the steering shroud but means my head is at a reasonable level.

I am lanky too at 6'4" and need to get as low as possible in the car so as I can use the roof whilst wearing a helmet. With the b5 on it's lowest setting, the seat is pretty much on the floor (this is in a vx220, but I guess it's not to dissimilar).

I'll stick a pic up once I have got it installed.
