The bearings on my S1 are apparently shot, how much do you think it will cost?

Undoing the driveshaft nut at the hub end can be a bh.

I gave up and took mine to the garage in the end when I was sorting out all the other suspension stuff. Think it cost 100-120 inc. parts, labour and VAT.

Get Timken bearings if you can, they are better.
Your will need a press to get the bearing out and the new one in. If you are doing it at home, put the bearing in the freezer the night before and heat up the upright it will help getting it in. Alternatively take the upright to a garage that has a press, they will do that bit for you for not much money.

The nut as said can be a bugger, i had to bounce on a breaker bar to get mine to budge. Something like 240n/m of torque.

if they are that stuck, 10 sec's with a blow-torch will un-seize them
