I'm planning on getting either a S3 Club Racer, a S2 111R (190bhp) or and depending on insurance costs an S2 Exige (190bhp) in the next 2/3 years once we've moved house and i get a garage!

I have tried to teach myself the almost impossible. That is, understanding the Lotus Elise model range from the last 10 years.

How many variations do you want!?!?!

Anyway I'm getting there (I think) but can someone give me an idea in exhausts. So far I've read about a Lotus sports exhaust, a 2tubular and a Larini.

How do these exhaust's differ and are all 3 variations mentioned above available to the 3 cars I've mentioned (appreciate the S3 if newer).

Finally on the 3 models mentioned how do the stock exhausts sound without one of the mentioned exhaust's?

I can't specifically answer your question but have a look on the wiki that's available on SELOC. All the exhaust options are on there but I don't think they have any opinion about what's good and what's not.

I think the Larini is the 'default' choice though

Next 2 or 3 years time yes. What's wrong with getting information, unless the cars I mentioned will have vanished into thin air? I just like to be thorough smile

I read through a load of links on the 'sticky' too if that's okay....

My k series s2 had a Janspeed when I first got it, later updated with a Larini Clubsport. Both sounded similar ish inside the car, but outside it was a world apart. The clubsport is the one to have if you want something that stands out and sounded amazing on tunnel runs. Admittedly both exhausts could be a bit overpowering if you're in the car for any length of time.

2bular do an exhaust for the 1.6 now and are generally very well regarded.

Larini are good but I would go 2bular. Just as well made, howl like a banjee when pressing on but are civilised enough to live with on a day to day basis (if you go yoga engined). For a k series it's nip and tuck but the larini does have a bit more 'rasp' about it.

Short video of 111R with 2bular 8x22:

Very long and probably quite tedious before and after video comparing it with the original exhaust:

8x22 is one of 2bular's quieter exhausts.

I did a lot of research on this, wading through Pistonheads and SELOC to try and get the right answer and listening to lots of fairly ropey and inconclusive YouTube clips. In the end, it was between Larini and 2bular and it was their websites that actually convinced me. Larini smelt too corporate whereas 2bular felt much more in the Lotus spirit. Jim is a man who lives and breathes Elise and Exige exhausts. You can ring him up and talk to him and discuss the options, and the exhaust was a work of art when it arrived and it was cheaper than Larini. The guy who fitted mine was an ex Benetton F1 team exhaust fabricator and he was highly impressed by the workmanship. It seemed almost a shame to hide it away behind the diffuser. It was an even greater shame to then smear it across a field in the Isle of Wight when I crashed...

Well - this must be almost top contender for a post resuscitation - I finally got round to geting a youtube account and thought I would post some vids of my Larini Club Sported Elise 111S (Rover Engine). Was gonna start a new thread but this one will do - took some searching!

As it happens I dont even own the car anymore its been that long but I stayed true to my roots and got an Evora. Had the larini fitted to that too - hooray - so thats prompted me to embark on this...

Yes it was noisy but what a glorious noise it was! Every tunnel and underground carpark was a joy! Just about able to drive for long distances but only if you kept it below 70 and in 5th. From memory used to get loud as it loaded up under throttle but note would "soften" as it got louder - bit hard to describe. It went from booming to rasping perhaps? A must have addition in my opinion!

Think the person I sold it to had an accident and wrote it off (front and rear clam dammage) but a new owner is re-building for track so she may rise again!

I had a Stage 3 on my SC Elise. Driving back from Picking the car up, when i bought it, i new the Stage 3 was coming off.
Far to boomy on the Motorway, couldnt hear my Misses. So chopped it in for a 2bular, which i am glad i did. Done a 3000mile trip with this, not intrusive at all when cruising, but hits the sweet spot when caning it!! Pops and burbles on downshift.
Its also very well built.

I had a 2tubular fitted to my 111r and was very pleased with it. A lot lighter than stock, very well made and just noisy enough to bring a smile to the face and for people to hear me coming.

Just for a comparison, here is my K series S2 111S with Lotus sports exhaust and an induction kit.

I've got a S2 Exige which came with a Lotus stage 2, I love it personally but it is really loud and droney on long journeys, pops and bangs like mad and screams like a motorbike on full chat!

I find the Lotus kit very poor quality. Welds give way far too easily. Drone is way too much for even short journeys.

The only sensible choice aftermarket is 2bular or Larini.
