you should be able to get a pair of 6.5" polyglass focal components behind your head then a sub in the foot well driven by an amp behind the passenger seat (~500w seems to do the trick).

for the front 5.25" Zenith do a nice job

enjoy

Don't buy the ones Halfords say will fit. They do not.

Would these be any good?

Wasn't planning on fitting a sub woofer?

I fitted 17 cm speakers into my S1 by using a spacer. A small sub mounted above the pax footrest will make a massive difference to the sound. Get one which has adjustable gain so you can set it to just fill in the lower frequencies rather than sounding like a kid in a Nova.

That's a low pass filter, not gain adjustment.

Where did you get your spacers from?

I left the standard speakers (4 of them) in my S2 but put in a small active sub, well worth the effort in my opinion.

My S1 came with a small sub behind seats. Honestly made for the best sound system I've ever had in a car (not saying much, but still!). Not something I'd ever have fitted but really enjoyed the tunes between hooning.

Definatley a gain (volume!) control. The sub also had a switchable low pass filter (as did the head unit I used).

I tended to use the Headunit's filters as I then wasn't asking the woofer/mid units in the rear and midrange units in the front to work too hard. Cleaned the sound up considerably. Switching on the low pass filters on the sub also helped (obviously the filters on the HU were attenuating rather than filtering).

A bit of playing with the equaliser circuits on the HU (I'd regard that or any tone controls as satanic at home!) and I got some decent sounds.

Believe it or not I had a very discreetly installed 9 speaker ICE in my S1 - not proper Hi-Fi but in the context of the environment it made a very decent sound that I could hear, roof on or off, at normal Mway cruising speeds;)

Wear a pair of decent earplugs (I dug around and found some non-disposables for less than £10 that were designed for people that need to hear the music but are subject to regular high SPLs) They filtered out most of the road and wind noise and you're just left with the music plus (when you floored it) the sound of induction and exhaust making nice noises in the backround. You could almost imagine you were in a normal car!
