Could anyone give some advice on a problem I’m having with the passenger door on my Elise S2?

Although the central locking is working and the passenger door can be opened from the inside, it can’t be opened from the outside. The button on the door handle can be pushed in, but without any resistance – which makes me think something may have come detached.

Does anyone know if this is an easy problem to fix?..

Thanks in advance!

I assume you have actually turned the lock barrel with your key from outside to unlock it??? You can actually lock the car manually using the key and it doesn't move the inside door lock pin and it works independantly of the CL.

Sorry if this too obvious!

I had tried that - but thanks for the suggestions. Sadly, the lock barrel won't turn at all.

I read on another forum that the problem might be caused by a spring clip in the door handle mechanism giving up the ghost. That might explain the lack of resistance - though I'm not sure why it would stop the barrel from turning.

I had a similar problem on my S1 - I'm not sure if they are similar mechanisms (although the S1 does not have central locking). With mine, the inside handle wouldn't open the door. It was caused by a small plastic clip on the handle of a metal rod that secures it to the back of the handle. IIRC, the push button on the outside was connected by a similar mechanism that also used a plastic clip.

I got a replacement from here: http://www.elise-shop.com/original-lotus-parts-c-1...
