My S2 yota Elise is loosing a bit of coolant somewhere, requiring a top up every couple of months or so.

I popped into Halfords and the local motor factors but they don't seem to stock the 'orange' coolant as per the manual, its apparently 'Red' these days. The active ingredients seem to be the same so will Hafords 'Red' be OK ?

Cheers

I was stuck and had to get the Prestone universal stuff which, it's claimed by the makers, can be used / mixed with any colour coolant.

So far so good .....

Does your manual say OAT coolant (organic acid technology)? Or is their some kind of indication around the expansion tank cap as to what should be used? I know that OAT coolant is recommended for K series engines and it's the pink Halfords OAT stuff that I use.

The leak will be your coolant bottle, they crack after several years. The cracks are barely noticeable but itsn enough to drop the coolant level.

They are 40 quid + vat to replace.

Cheers guys. The manual does specify OAT coolant but also says Orange in colour.

It's Toyota car rather than a K series.
