Hey!

I'm 24 and looking to buy a Lotus Exige S when I get home from travelling in May. I've been looking online and found some crackers. My budget will be about £22kish. I get home May 25th and would love one in time for the Le Mans 24hrs trip!

My question is, when I get insurance quotes, it asks if the car has been modified - do touring, sports or super sports packs count as a modification that the insurance company needs to know about??

Also, how much am I looking at for car tax on an Exige S?

Thanks

When are you 25? It opens up a load more insurers, particularly the Lotus specialists like CCI or REIS.
With regards the 'mods', factory fitment extras are not modifications however you need to declare them when stating the car model etc.
Its going to cost you at your age though! frown

August 30th which cuts a lot of the summer out frown

I have a quote from Elephant for £1700 - not too bad I thought.

You can beat that quote depending what mileage you are wanting to insure it for. I know a 24 year old with an Exige S with various mods who pays less than that. Try Henderson Taylor and speak to Matt, he will come up with something better, I would expect still 4 figures but a lower 4 figures. When Lotus's were registered they stated Tourer or Sport Tourer etc etc as the model on the log book so as long as you have the reg you will be covering the right car.

As for Road Tax, I think I paid £225 last time.

Might be worth talking to CCI, they covered me at 24 on my Elise as I'd had an MX-5 for a few years before.

10% discount for SELOC members too.

And if you do a Walshy day they CCI will discount again, plus CCI offer track cover which is the main purpose of insuring with them.

OK well when the time comes I'll get a quote from them too so thanks all. I have 5 years no claims bonus but will have only been insured on a Renault Clio up to the point of buying an Exige (no MX-5's unfortunately)

I would love a few track days on the policy too. I think my first would be Bedford Autodrome, just because of how safe it is. Then Silverstone GP would be cool! Give it a a year or so and a 2 dayer at Spa.... Now I'm dreaming!
