That's the first video I've seen from you where your car actually looks fun - all the others it just seems like a pain in the ass and unable to use more than 2/10ths throttle. Nice to see some revs being used, dread to think what speeds you were touching though!!

Shows just how quick bikes are.

Happy Christmas!

As an ex-biker I know how fast they are and I know how fast these guys are and they know that the little rocket pig can pull a worked over R1 at speed... My buddies were all on slicks and are fearless in the twisties.
The lead riders that took off into the distance are the TT type guys in the neighborhood and there was no way I was gonna try and match their speed since it put me out of my comfort zone and not knowing the first two sections of road at their speed is a weird feeling.... I pride myself for always being in control at less than disintegration speeds in the twisties, the speeds these guys like to travel in those sections puts you into the body bag slushy category if you're in leathers and a mention on the 11 o'clock news if you're in a car that causes the fireball that toasts the hillside for the next few days.
It was fun runin with the guys at their pace but I won't be doing it again unless we are on a more technical section of road at the speeds you won't need dental records to identify my old ass with.....
I love to run quickly but I'm out for a Sunday drive not the TT..... Still it was fkin cool to run with the guys and show them what this rocket pig of a Lotus can do driven by a little old man...
When guys say a car is faster than a bike in the twisties they have never driven alongside real riders with skills....beer

Have you got a website detailing the build? That car looks bonkers mental!!

I rarely look in the lotus section of pistonheads, so you'll have to forgive me If there is all ready a thread detailing your car. Would love to read more about it. smile

Hey guys you can check out www.Lotussport.org or have a look at EVO I posted a short history....I'm not here to brag I'm just sharing my times with the Lotus and if anyone really cares to go the same route I can offer some first hand expereance without the internet BS..

http://community.evo.co.uk/forums/thread.cfm?threa...

The reason I bought the Lotus was because it was almost identical to the Stratos, if you compare the specs side by side you can see for yourself. The only thing lacking was the power with the Stratos puttin out 250 bhp and the Elise only 190 bhp..
So I started out first workin out the suspension which sucked I thought...I switched out the springs and shocks for a set of Nitrons and then played with a few different Eibach spring rates till I was happy with the way the car reacted in off camber downhill decreasing radius corners. At the time Lotus didn't offer a LSD in the C60 gearbox so I installed a Quaiff and that cured the wheel spin issue that could not be dialed out by suspension alone...Now it was a proper NA Lotus in the tight twisties.
After a few weeks I decided it was time to get to work on the power so I called Lotus to see if I could buy the bits from the 240R Exige, no good the said so I decided to modify a Greddy supercharger kit for the Toyota Celica and made the proper brackets to make things work in the Lotus this gave me 225 hp at the wheels, now it was on par with the Stratos....
While road testing the new tune the car was punted at a stop light by a Peterbilt truck, a blessing in disguise. I was now able to turn lemons into lemonade, the Elise now became an Exige. With the Exige rear clam was the space needed to build not buy my A/W charge cooler setup. This allowed me to reach 320 whp which was higher than the 350 bhp claimed by Lotus in their GT3....
I'll skip over the engine issues due to Mahle pistons design..

It was now the fastest Lotus at Willow Springs Raceway by an easy 5 sec. quicker than the Cup 240...

So I got used to the car and felt it was time for more power and talked to a buddy of mine about doing a turbo setup and ditch the supercharger..A week later we had the car back on the road. Did a little street tuning and it was time for the dyno. I was happy with the 469 whp on the dyno so I took it for a little canyon run on my way back from the shop and quickly sheared the teeth off of third gear due to the torque...
Two gearboxes later I decided it was time to find a replacement.
The only box that could handle the torque was the Toyota E153 from the MR2 Turbo...
After making a custom bell-housing, mounts and axles it was in the car and on the road..
Now I had the strongest gearbox I could find to handle the added power except for one small issue. The dam 5 speed gearing was all wrong for the little 1.8 ltr turbo. No low end torque meant massive turbo lag at any rpm below 4,200.
I didn't want to downshift two gears every time I wanted to make a safe pass in the hwy....So the compound charger idea popped into my head. Now I remembered the Lancia Delta S4 was the first car to use the setup back in the Group B days but they started out with a complicated bypass system which I believe had some issues. I decided to go the old industrial way of twin charging by having the compressor force feed the air pump...

With the supercharger filling the cylinder with it's pressurized air the resulting hotter and more powerful exhaust pressure was put to the large turbine wheel resulting in instant boost at any rpm....I mean at 2,800 rpm touch the throttle and it's instant 14 psi....3,200 rpm 26 psi..3,600 rpm 36 psi.....= 680 whp

And then there were issues with boost spikes up to 56 psi which hammered the rod bearings off the crank...after goin nuts tryin to figure the cause I decided it was the header design and I made a new 4-1 equal length with the wastegate getting a direct flow from the collector before the turbo...Ta Da problem solved and perfect control of the boost pressure.....Min 14 psi Max 42 psi.

Now this was all tuned on 100 octane gas which can be had at a few stations around town but if you take a long cruise into the mountains you are out of luck and have to dial the power down to 430 at 22 psi. for 91 octane pump gas....Dam 10 gal tank..

That wouldn't do, so I designed a separate fuel injection system for 90% alcohol... With it's own 2.5 gal tank, pump regulator and injectors I was able to get a perfect staged injection tune that allowed me to run 91 octane pump gas up to 22 psi. and then blending in the 90% alcohol while pulling out some gas for a perfect air fuel ratio..... This is E85 on the fly. I now have 104 octane on demand. No need to limit myself to the 10 gal.range.

Now if I wanted more power I could just turn up the boost and rock but I'm tired of screwin with things and to be honest the car is just too fast as it is with 680 whp..

Yeah I left out a lot of the R$D but if you want to know all the dirt check out www.Lotussport.org for the good the bad and the ugly....

This car was built not bought...

If you have any questions ask away

Thanks alot, I enjoy sharing the R$D without willy waggin.... Don't ask about it's 0 to a gizzilyon times because I just don't care... It's a sports car used for the sport of driving.... If I wanted a race car I'd buy a "real" race car..

Ok so I've got some more video with my two wheel friends I've gotta get together ...I think you'll like it..

Why?

Also, judging from the photos it seems that the rear wing is mounted to the rear body, doesn't that flex the body etc?

Pretty impressive looking beast. Good effort.

As for the wing mounting have a look at the rear photo and you can see that the wing is not fixed to the body. The lower portion of the upright is bolted directly to rear subframe and supported through the upper edge of the body diagonally to the frame.. The upright does not touch the body.. No stress cracks.

The rattle was me pulling away in fourth gear instead of second, that's what happens when you coast down without down shifting and forget what gear you're in...

As for car vs bike performance it all depends who's ridin and who has a fear of dying....Look at TT times and you'll know who the nutters are.
My buddies are full on mental in the canyons, remember there were three other riders in the lead and I wasn't about to kill myself to prove a point... This is the real world with dirt on the road surface, blind corners and a 12' lane to keep it in....
