Currently have the standard elise brake pads on my 09 elise s, and to be honest find it a little scary how poor the brakes can be on first application if driven for a long distance in the rain without being used (i do lots of motorway miles in mine) getting to the point where I am in need of new pads and have seen that the mintex pads are suited to road driving ,my car will never go round a track, but will these be better in the rain, or is there some other brand I should look at.
I don't really want to lose any dry braking performance but would like an increase in wet weather performance.
Any help greatly appreciated, thanks for reading, and have a good day.

Dont think its anything much to do with the pads. Simply water on the discs, worse than most cars because of the aero effects round the wheels.

Lightly 'brushing' the brake pedal occasionally seemed to help (check behind you first though!)

I have found that applying them slightly to dry them/heat them, wasn't sure which helped. But have had a few worrying moments when all stopped dead and was a pucker moment to get it stopped in time.

Are there better suited discs which can be bought?

I found this problem, and it isn't a great confidence boost is it? I recently swapped to EBC discs and pads, and it seems to have reduced a bit, but you still have to think about it. I did not swap the discs 'cos of the issue, just that the old ones were shot.

I used to get exactly the same - the first application was vague at best, but then they worked fine.

I found the Pagid pads (RS14 or RS42, can't recall which - the road pads was what I got) were very good, though they are mega expensive, but the dry performance was superb.

Looking at eliseparts can't work out if the price for the pagids is for a full set or just 2 will email tomorrow, as would be cheaper than new discs and like most could do with the money in my pocket at the moment.

Thanks for all the help.

Yep, the standard pads that were on the Exige were awful for this when I first got the car. Naturally, you don't expect things to be too great the first time you apply the brakes in the rain, but this was silly.

Switched to Pagid RS42 and they were much better in this scenario (and much better all-round)

As a bit of an aside, but curious if others have had the same, dry braking is very even and stable whereas wet weather braking introduces a pull to the left. Could this be due to air management causing the left hand discs to stay warmer/dryer?

Would be interested if others have noticed a similar issue or have thoughts as to a probable cause.

has been a common issue from the start...when my old Elise was a daily driver doing 25K miles a year, I changed to Pagids 4-2s and they were much better
